Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
A lot of the chassis cars run it similar to that. I believe it makes mounting the shocks very easy and give lots of room for suspension travel/ride height.

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
sweet, how did you find your chassis guy? local friend or classified? ive been looking around my area and its tough to find, shops want about 8g for a 10pt cage install. i might get ballsy and try it myself, but its just something you CAN NOT do wrong.
|
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
That price is crazy!
|
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
The 8g is if you have a full interior they have to work around, but still i agree. Thats the highest ive found calling around. The best ive found so far said itd be around 5500 with no interior and was only 8pt.

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Price is insane. Joe did my Camaro (see pics below). He is a local guy that several friends told me about.

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
on a last note, the car culture around here has always seemed pricey to me. the economical status of alberta is quite well, being the home of fort mcmurray a major oil supplier and edmonton alone housing many major refinerys. ive learned to deal with it, and have travelled many miles to get quality, less expensive work/parts. life haha.
but yeah, we should probably stop thread jacking now... haha Super73 i cant wait to see the final pics of your cage/suspension. gonna be like a whole new truck! haha I want to ask where you got your transmission? im just shopping around now and want to make sure i get one thats gonna withstand the kind of punishment i need it to hold up to. Thanks, Kyle. |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
There is no doubt that Super73's truck is going to be great when it is done. That is easy to tell by the quality of work on his Camaro. I need to post some photos fo my cage in the other thread asking for pictures. I just never seem to have a camera when near my truck at the shop. Paul

Some cell phone shots from today.
Front Outriggers, still need to be welded to the cab mount and inside frame. They tie in to the rocker of the cab adding strength to them. God forbid the truck were to roll over, the outrigger would have a hard time shearing off the frame rail or even bending the 2x3 tube sonce it's welded on both sides. |

Rear outriggers, these angle up slightly as they go out. These will also get welded on both ends for strength.

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Is that cage really going to pass NHRA tech??? It just looks so mickey moused, especially that top hoop area. Has your guy done a whole bunch of tech certified cages? Did you sit in it when he measured for placement of the door bars? I just hope your 5 feet tall and weigh 110 pounds to climb over those bars all day long.
|
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Dan,
I am curious what you think is "Mickey Moused." Joe has built many cages that have passed cert, not only 8.50 and slower but 7.49-8.49 funny car cage stuff. He even discussed things with our regional NHRA tech guy. I am also not a huge guy at 5"10 and 170lbs. |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Another update, looks like my 72cc AFR 225's are sold and will be coming off the motor. Talking to Tony Mamo about the 64cc AFR 245 heads.

bigdan.... A 8.50 cetified cage is going to be a bit tight to fit into with a standard cab pickup. But I'm trying to see ANYTHING that isn't just extremely well fit and finished. Shaun's noggin is going to appreciate the long straight bars and gusseted corners if he ever puts the to to use for anything other than iteing up the chassis. (LOL, lets hope not) Bummer that I don't have my program together to have worked out a deal on the heads Shaun,, But I already ripped the transaxle up once with just the power this sandrail has now,,, just getting it back together this week as a matter of fact. I apparently need to learn how to drive a little nicer LOL |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Is there a reason you don't put the bars that run next to your feet a long the floor of the cab under the cab where you won't hit your feet when getting out?
Does the bars across your door need to make a X or is that more for safety? Your truck looks like it is coming together nice. Brett Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
That looks awsome brother can't wait to see the finished truck

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
LOOK AT SHAUN GOING BIG TIME!!!!!
The motor is going to love the new heads. The cage work looks great. For the some that does not understand the gusset's. Those are mandatory for any joint that can not be welded 360* |
