So I stripped the interior and removed all of the glass. I was surprised to find such little rust underneath the window seal. I did have a rusted out place on the driver side outside lower window sill and at the top of the windshield above the steering wheel.

Picked up my parts from the sand/media blaster. Looks like more pin holes to repair. Hood, doors, cowl, and doors are pretty solid and ready for SPI, but the fenders and bed sides need tons of attention.

I used the back portion of an old fender to patch my bedsides today. I ordered the patch panels from one of the manufacturers. You almost couldn't tell what the parts were for they were so poorly made. The groove around the wheel well brow wasn't even stamped into the part. I ended up using an old lower rear portion of a fender to do the patch and I would recommend that anyone who needs just a small portion of the bed patched behind the back wheel to order the lower rear portion of the fender. It actually has all of the correct stamping.

Those blasted and primed parts look great! You're getting ahead of me now.
It looks like you must be using flux core wire with your welder. Once you upgrade to true mig gas you will wonder why you ever tried to weld sheet metal with flux core. It is so much easier!! I have the same exact rust that you repaired on the bottom driverside windshield opening. That is going to be a fun one when I get back on my rusty cab. Keep it up man, great job:metal: |

yes, it was a metal brake project. good luck with yours. I know the area where you bought your truck and it's a pretty corrosive place.

I replaced my door hinge pins (suprisingly easy) so I could align the drivers door. And then I moved on to finish the epoxy primer from Southern Polyurethanes, good stuff. I have the turbo 2K ready to go on in black.

Actually I was out of argon at one point and around here you can't get argon on sat and sun so I switched to flux core to get some headway. Gotta work with whatcha got sometimes.

And I painted a few more parts with epoxy. My dad snuck in a few '51 parts for the shoot. Next is to assemble the whole truck and get the Rage Gold filler applied.

Dan, watch out for that small rust on the outer skin. I had the same thing on mine and when I opened it up the entire vent area and lower inner portion was completely rusted out. Thought it was a 45 minute repair that turned into a half day.

Also, check the cowl under the dash where the sheets lap together. Down inside the cowl box bottom. I also welded the seams going into the windshield solid to try to prevent leaks. Cool project! Keep it up!

Only did a few things to the C10 this weekend. A little body work. I had to rush up to Durham for an emergency and I made sure to show my grandpa the truck progress on my iPad while I was up there. Hopefully he enjoyed it. I still hope to have it finished for the Father's Day car show. Well maybe not 100% finished, it's going to be driven there in whatever condition it might be.

Changed out the passenger door hinge pins. Picked up door weather stripping off of a 1995 S-10 just for kicks and it fits and seals pretty well. I may be using it instead of soffseal...expensive stuff. And more rage gold and more hand sanding. Tomorrow I plan on shooting everything with Turbo 2K in black.

Anyone out there work all night long making sure that their doors and all other body panels on their truck are perfect? Then wake up in the morning excited to put a coat of primer on the entire truck, but before you get to that you RUN OVER THE PASSENGER DOOR? I had to take a break from the truck for a few hours.

I spent 3 days at the Charlotte Auto Fair last weekend and I think I walked 400 miles. I posted a few pics in my gallery section. I'll add a few more later. Anyone else out there attend? Now I have to repair the door that I ran over.

Now it's on to the repairs. I had a door in pretty bad shape that I used as a donor. I had to modify things a little to make the 70 door work with the 72 hole for mounting the vent window - not too difficult. I spent too much time since I was extra tedious to make the fit as tight as possible. Moral of this story is "DON'T RUN OVER YOUR DOORS"!

And here is the final fit....no more crushed door. I'll have it tacked in, filled, and hopefully the whole truck covered in 2K by midnight.

I used my Eastwood self leveling seam sealer today. Great product, but very messy. Then I finished up all of the filler work to get the body as smoothed out as possible. Hopefully I'll have the 2K turbo primer on tonight since it's raining tomorrow.

Don't run over door. Priceless.:lol: Not everyone would admit to doing that. Nice work, Johnny. I'm in the market for some seam sealer, too. Glad to see you liked the Eastwood stuff. Those are repop fenders, aren't they? Do they fit OK? I've heard bad things about them at times. Yours look good, though. |
