These pics are not very good but here ya go. I will plate the inside after i final weld. I need to bring the bed home before i cut the rear. I guesse the 1 ton rear frames are diffrent than a 1/2 ton? If i cut 6 inches off the rear my bumper will have to have holes cut through the rear hangers? Someone know if this is right?

Fish plate. May do the inside and outside. I will be pulling some with it. I don't know if it will be necessary to do both. What do y'all think?

Part of me would like to weld it up and dress it out so its not visible but I know it needs more strength. I will box mine and clean it up nice. It could also have a fish plate behind it. I just want a clean look. I know frames flex some, Just don't want cracks.....

So you are going to box just the area where the frame was shortened at?

Cant wait to see how this turns out, I have a cclb dually that I am wanting to cut down to a swb. Not sure if I would want to make it a dually or just go single wheel.

What are your plans for the suspension. Lowering it, or stock ride height?

Getting pretty anxious myself. I'm taking vacation the week after Thanksgiving, with nothing planned but working on the truck.
Keep it a dually, the ones i have seen are sweet!!

I plan on lowering it. Looking at hangers and shackles for the rear and 3" spindles for the front. I want it to be low enough to look good but not so low that it's not functional. Bags are not in the budget, i don't think that i have mentioned that this is a budget build.

From what I've researched, you don't need to cut as much off the rears as the half tons because the 1 ton frames were shorter from the factory back there. I wondered the ame thing on mine. Also, did you just measure 1/2" back from the front bed mounting hole, make a mark, and then remove 14" from there back?

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

I measured back 7 inches from from the rear cab mount, that put me about a inch behind the front bed bolt hole.

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

Did you just go 7" back from the rear edge of the cab mount, or 7" from center? (I'm reading it like 7" from the rear edge of the cab mount but just want to be sure) Thanks for the help. I'm going to try to cut mine down soon.

No problem.
Plans are to take the truck to work this weekend to shoot the firewall so i can get started getting the engine and trans in.
I will set the bed on while it's there so i can figure out how much needs to come off of the rear of the frame. I will post up after i figure it out.

Don't forget the pictures!! This is exactly what I plan on doing to mine. Shortbed, 5.3, 4l60, and a 6/8 drop. So I'm watching this build close......

Will do. Are you doing a dually or single wheel?

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

Definately keeping it dually. I havent decided on wheels yet. Probly just stock 16's. Semis are not really in the budget. Plus I don't know if I wanna mess with the adapters and all the added weight.

Sounds like you should be able to get a lot of work done on it then. I have thought about keeping it a dually, but mine is 4x4 and lifted duallys just don't look as good as a srw. Plus I have seen one or two lifted short bed dually 4x4s and they look unproportional.
