Re: 70 5 lug disc brake thread

Like it was said earlier,... if you have the wider axle and the correct '70 numbers, (if there is such a thing. I don't know),... that fact would be diluted with the ability to put 71-72 5-lug axles in that housing.
(do the 71-72 housings have their own numbers? Anyone know?)

This subject still interests me alot.
Back in 1979 I had my '71 Chevelle SS in a body shop in my home town.
A guy that worked there, spent all weekend swapping the rearend, and all the disc brake stuff from another employees '71 Cheyenne,... to his '70 lwb 6-lug truck.
He did all of this work,... because the two employees decided to trade wheels.
It was an even swap.
Seemed crazy at the time.
But somewhere there is a '71 Cheyenne with 6-lug (4 wheel) drum brakes,... and a '70 lwb truck with factory 5-lug 71-72 suspension.
There were no aftermarket axles back then.
No disc brake conversion companies.

I witnessed it,... or I would never believe someone would go to all that trouble.

I will try and get it out and pressure wash these areas tomorrow if the rain quits. I will also try and get the axle tube # and is there any other #'s on the rear end that will help me determine what year it is from. The only thing that intrigues me is being the 70 is more of a transitional year with the two types of rear end widths and I have seen paper work that shows 70 disc as in the ones that I have posted then it may be possible that this is one. Or maybe someone did swap this stuff over and if so then I was misled to believe this was the way it came. I will try and get all of the info that I can before I go back to work thurs. night. On the second page the code is J62 for those of you who are just viewing this. Does anyone have any info on that code.

I would be interested in seeing where the steel lines are routed to.
(in front of the crossmember or behind it)
And what type of rubber brake hose it has,
Also backing plate pics would be great.
The a-arms woulrd be a dead give-away if they are rubber bushed.

I would like to see this too. I went through all that a while back when I ordered brake lines for a 72 suspension. My swb frame is actually from a 67 so I have ran into a few things that
were just a little different.

If I can get it cleaned up some tomorrow then I can get it under the carport and get it on jack stands and take some pics of these things. Oh yeah and listen to my wife fuss about doing that and not the to do list.

That list is an alphabetical list of GM RPO codes for more than just pick up trucks. Does it say L98-350 4bbl right above LS9-350? It's a little blurry, but if it does I think we found the Corvette option!

I have been very busy with the kids and work and as soon as I get time to pull the truck out of the shop and look at this stuff I will do so. I would assume that it is not a Vette option.
