Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
Guys I have a question, Im wanting to do year correct plates but I'm not sure what is involved or if any of you guys have a nice set of 1969 plates youd want to sell. Im curious as to how you get them registered to your vehicle etc. Let me know and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
Great job on your grandpas truck- bet the rest of the family was excited that you saved it! Are you sure that you want a 69 plate? (I assume it is a 69) but you have a 67-68 nose on it and it may seem a little confusing to people- or maybe not? Glad your little guy likes trucks!

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
I believe I have to have a 69 plate as its titled as such?
|
Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
I dont know how Texas is but in Ga you take the old plates you want to use to your local tag office along with your current plate and fill out a form and just keep your other plate somewhere in your truck.

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
Phenomenal work. Love the color. I went JD Blitz Black, but now wished I had thought of your color. Kudos man.

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
ok fellas, I need some opinions. I have the opportunity to buy an ls motor with 6 speed auto tranny and all accessories, wiring and computers for pretty cheap from my boss. Its coming out of a totaled gmc safari van. Its a 2011 with only 7,000 miles on it. Only issue is its a 4.8. Is this worth the swap? Ideally I want to do a 6.2, but would be happy with a 5.3 or 6.0. Can the 4.8 be massaged to make enough power to please me is the question? The truck currently has a small block 400 with turbo 400. Let me know what you think!

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
Nice truck and I love to see the kids involved. I can't tell you how many pics I have of my build with my son or daughter somewhere in the shot. It's what it's all about!
|
Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
I would go for it ,you can always upgrade it later.
|
Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
Keep the motor you have. It looks good and I'm sure it makes plenty of power.
|
Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
alright alright alright! I've been off of here for far too long. Been busy with life but I'm back on the truck full swing.
|
Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
Absolutely Awesome! You are a gifted man to have a wife like yours, and to have the kids involved will keep the truck in the family for a long time to come. Love what you chose to do with it. I bought my truck when my son was two months old, and he learned about the world under the hood. (He's 23 now) He about had a heart attack when I mentioned I was thinking of putting her up for sale. My wife calls her "The Mistress" , but loves to go for a ride every now and then. Again, Awesome job!

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
The 4.8 will make plenty of power- HOT ROD picked up a LS from a yard (thinking it was a 5.3) & mounted it on a dyno then hung a turbo on it to find out how much power it would make before it blew. I don't recall how much boost they eventually got up to but they were over 1,000 HP when it let go. Upon teardown they discovered they had a 4.8- this was a few years ago- you could find the story on their site I bet.

I ended up selling the 4.8. Last month I picked up a 5.3lt out of a 2015 silverado mated to a 6l80e. Its in the truck now just working on wiring and plumbing. Im super excited about the possibilities with this thing now. Gonna do a cam swap and stall with headers and a custom tune when finished up. Ill keep you guys posted.

Re: Mine and Grandpas c10
My 1st post and all I can say is "WOW", what skill you have and smiles are steadily glowing from above on you. You have a true talent, hope you pass it on to your son so it won't be lost. Thanks for sharing, the engine swap should be a screamer.
