Few updates:

Still haven't removed the cab, but it is ready to come off. I did get two things accomplished this past month.
1. I finished building my trailer.

2. I finished my Graduate Program work towards an MBA. Will graduate in the summer!

So to celebrate, I have finally ordered some parts. Here's a quick run-down.

• Wilwood Disc Brake Conversion Kit - 2.5" Drop Spindles 5 Lug
• Suspension Kit - 1" Drop Front Springs 5" Drop Rear Springs (Also comes with sway bars and new trac bar)
• Coil Spring Retainers for the rear
• Shock Relocation kit for the rear

That's all for now. Now that my college career is over, I hope that I can spend more time with my family and with my truck.

The time has finally arrived! I removed my cab yesterday.

I built the cab cart out of some 4x4s and a couple of leftover 2x6s and 2x4s I had from another project. I bought the pneumatic casters off of Amazon. I don't have the weight distributed perfectly on the cart, but I was able to safely move it to my back yard.

I used an engine hoist to lift the cab off of the frame. Instead of lifting from the roof like many people do, I used eye bolts in the seat-belt holes. I then ran the straps through the firewall to the lower fender mount holes on the cab. The load wasn't balanced well, but with the help of a neighbor I was able to maneuver it well enough to get it on the cart.

So next steps will be to line up either a tow dolly or car trailer to get the chassis to the frame shop. I've called around to a few places and there were numerous shops that wouldn't even entertain the idea. I was able to get in touch with a friend who has been in Bodywork business all of his life and he gave me a good source. I talked to the owner of the shop and he was super nice. He told me he would take his time with it and get everything as near to perfect as he can. He also told me it would cost between $300 to $500 depending on number of setups. I thought that was very reasonable.

After the frame is straight and true, I'm going to begin disassembly in preparation for media blasting and painting.

My parts I ordered earlier this month are due in Wednesday. Once the parts get in I will inventory everything and begin planning for their install.

I just picked up a 72 long bed. Driving project, but starting to find a lot of things previous owners short cut. Looks like I will being chasing wiring issues for awhile. Side markers and back ups lights don't work even after new bulbs. But what the hell, fun turning wrenches as others said. This is my 3rd of this C10 body style. Also had a 69 SB and another 72 back in the 90's. My truck is shown in my avatar.

Thanks Jeff! Good luck with those wiring issues. I thought my wiring was in decent shape until I started tearing things apart and saw some shortcuts the previous owner had taken. I plan on installing all new wiring once I get to that point.

Numbers show it as a M22 Muncie built in December 1966 for a 67 year model car. I can't find a partial VIN anywhere on it, so I'm not sure what car it was original to. It's a good transmission and was running fine when I parked the truck. I won't be using it in my new build so I'm going to eventually sell it.

My oldest son decided he wanted to help me today. Here he is taking off some old exhaust hangers for me.

Next I will begin tearing the front end down. I'm planning on having the frame media blasted sometime in the upcoming month. After that, I'm going to use POR-15 to paint the frame and then begin assembly.

I had trouble finding a local shop that would even do the work. The front end was slightly bent. They corrected that problem, but the driver's side core support mount still looks off slightly. Overall I'm satisfied with their work.

How true. Long as he is using a 5/16 or 1/4" he should be just fine. :lol:

Well it has been an interesting weekend to say the least...

***Warning: Mostly non-truck related post.***

Yesterday began with my son's baseball game. He is playing his second year of coach pitch and has really done great this season. He is understanding the basic idea of the game what his role consists of playing first base.

We played his cousin's team yesterday and it was a very good game. My son made an awesome play in catching a pop fly (that his cousin hit) and getting him out. He then threw the ball to 2nd to get two other base runners out. Triple play for my son's team! It was amazing.

So my family including my wife and two other children go to lunch to celebrate with my son. On the way back home, we stop to pickup my car that I left at the fields. My wife had an appointment that morning, so we had to drive separate. Anyways, the kids rode with her and I drove by myself.

We took the highway home and were next to each other. She was in right lane, I was in left lane. At almost 80 MPH an elderly lady thought it would be a good idea to pull out onto the highway with us only a few car lengths away. Luckily she pulled out and crossed both lanes and got into my lane. If not my wife and three kids would have rear-ended her. Instead, I rear-ended her. Here's the damage:

I'm okay and the driver was okay. Her passenger was acting very suspicious. Turns out he had warrants and was arrested. There was a 3 year old girl in the back seat. She was sitting in a car seat but not buckled, and the car seat itself was not buckled. I think she was fine, but her parents showed up and took her to the ER just in case. Needless to say the driver was in trouble for that as well.

So now I'm waiting to see the verdict on my car, but I imagine it will be totaled.

Not sure what this means for work on the truck. May slow down for a minute, may not. We will see.

I did get home and play around a little to relieve some stress. Got the driver side suspension broke down. Took a lot of hammering with the pickle fork, but it finally gave up and broke loose.

Next step is to POR15 all the blasted stuff. I did a trial run on my drop spindles and was happy with the outcome. I will have some time off next week so I'm hoping I will get most of the painting done then.

My goal is to have a rolling chassis by the end of the year. I think that is very obtainable and will keep working towards that.

Glad you posted an update so now I can follow this build. Got my truck about 3 or so weeks ago and am going to tackle mine basically in the same fashion and order as you. Got my front end removed yesterday and everything’s ready to be pulled. Definitely excited to see more of your truck!

I've done a few things this week.

Old axle bearings out and new paint on axle. I have new bearings and seals to put in, just waiting on a dial indicator I ordered to check backlash. I didn't see any broken teeth on the gears or any metal in the bottom of the housing. I think I will be good to throw the cover on and some new gear oil and let it ride.

Got the engine and trans pulled and sold. The beds off as well and was going to remove the cab today but my mother had an accident on her horse so that’ll have to wait until next week unfortunately. After that, frame restoration and new suspension parts!
