k, I'll keep 'em crossed. At least you know its a voltage problem, thats one step closer to finding it. Then you can relax:smoke:

I got a call from the shop today and they say I need a hi-po alternator due to the dual electric fan set up. I hope to take it to the transmission shop tomorrow.

Re: She is back.

I dropped her off to have the tranny looked at this morning. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I also found some rust above the windshield on the inside. I saw some some surface rust but did not think anything of it all this time. Well I dedcided poke it with a key and it went thru and I am fairly sure it is from the drip rail needing to be resealed because the windshield is leaking a little. Hopefully it is just the one small spot I found on the inside.

Re: She is back.

Well, if the alt solved the first problem maybe trans won't be too bad. Lets hope rust is minimal...still a nice burb though. Hey did you sell that brush guard I saw on the pics before and after thread?

Yes it is gone. I would have sent it to you for shipping if I still had it. I am trying to decide on a new alternator now. I wasn't paying the shop to replace something that takes 5 minutes.

Re: She is back.

Thanks for the thought but if you see another let me know. On the alt you might want to consider a 100 amp single wire with the internal reg. I know I saw a thread tell how to change the external reg wiring to accept it. DO NOT QUOTE ME this is from memory and we should find it or start another thread but I think it said to jump outside wires and to jump the inners. But anyway this will get the amps you need in a modern alt

Re: She is back.

Yeah, I upgraded to a 96 amp already and it is not enough so I am going to look at a 140 amp.

Well I got it back from the shop and now I need to get issues resolved with vibration in driveline.

Re: She is back.

Did it vibrate before the trans shop? Probably needs a good balance and u joints:smoke:

Yes. The vibration was there befor the tranny shop. It has a new driveshaft since I changed to a 700r4 that is supposed to be balanced with new ujoints. There is also a new billet carrier bearing from CPP.

Just a random thought: are your wheels/tires balanced? Sometimes the weights come off.

That may not be the source of the vibration, but won't hurt to visually check.

Hope you get all the kinks worked out soon!

Good idea. I took it to Discount Tire today and they would not do it because the front tires do not meet the load capacity of the sub. I will take it some where else.

When the driveshaft was installed were all of the Ujoints put in the correct position from each other? In other words all the ujoint caps should line up with each other down the length of the shafts or it will throw the shaft out of balance. It would happen when the two sections are slid together at the carrier bearing. Just a thought.

Richard

What?!?!?! That's crazy. I guess for liability reasons, but come on. LOL

You could could always just take the wheels/tires off and do a "carry-out" balance maybe. My dad has done that before with tires that needed repair (nails, etc.) It comes back on the invoice as "Carry-out".

Yeah it is crazy but the front tires are really low profile althought they ride suprisingly well. I bought the wheels and tires off craigslist so I will go with a beefier front tire when these wear out.

Still have a vibration in the driveline and possibly still need a higher amp alternator. I also have some 1" spacers being made for the rear wheels. I am going to take it to have the rear gears changed to 3.73 as I currently have a 2.8??? something and that is not good with the 700r4 I just had rebuilt. She does drive really good otherwise. I have put 200 miles on her this week but need to get the driveline fixed ASAP.

At least you are getting through some of the issues and can drive it right now. Crappy roads kill that here for us.

I am wanting to take it to a shop in Dallas I have used in the past. He can do the rearend and driveshaft. I have a lot of money in this set up but may change to a one piece driveshaft. I will get their opinion on my set up and see. I wish they were closer I would get it done this week.

This is crap! You're burb is a halfton and doesn't "require" higher load tires. I bet they didn't want to balance the tires because they knew it would be a pain to get them right. I've balanced alot of those wheels and they can be a headache to balance but all it takes is a little extra effort and your good to go. When is the vibration happening? Usually tires won't vibrate under 60 mph unless there seperated.

I think the tires are fine was just going to get it done to mark off the list. The vibration happens aroung 30 mph and the speed varies sometimes.

I took her to the local cruise night at Whaterburger where there was a good turn out. This is the first time I have ever taken any vehicle to a cruise night or car show.

I have some pinion shims ordered which I hope will solve the vibration issue and I still need to swap to 3.73's so the 700r4 will operate better. I also have some wheel spacers for the rear on the way. This town has some major dips coming off the roadways into parking lots.
