Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Looking at the 2 photochops, I think you need to do the windshield frame in white, that way it still looks like a 50th with the top off. Just my $.02

It is going to be beautiful! I totally on painting the windshield post white also.
Here's my feeble attempt at cleaning up Hart Rod's rendering, but it still needs to be shortened. Anybody? |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
3rd's on the WS frame, and I wish I could do PS :(
(The reason I do NOT have a rendering for my build) |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Damn, that is looking good.. A big thanks to you guys for doing that.
I agree 100%, after I saw the first one I was wondering what was missing, now I see it is the white windshield pillar. Will be going with white for sure. |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
I really like your idea for the 50th, that gold really grows on you once you look at a few of them.

You PS guys are killing me, a few changes to that could
be the inspiration for me to have a finished pic of mine. Any updates? |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
OK, it's been to long without updating any progress on the Blazer, but I have moved things around in the shop and taken Brad's 68 in for storage while he is away. This is not giving me much room to work, but I have been collecting a few parts along the way. Things will get rolling in a couple of weeks once I finish the 78 (finally!).. next update will actually have some pics...

Can't wait for the pics! :D

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
It's amazing how you can think of an idea and think you're soooo smart and then BAM there it is in it's own build thread!:lol::lol:
I love this idea and love the work! I may have missed it as I just scanned through, but are you going roadster? I definitly would go with the white on the upper A-posts, but it would be cool it you went white on the top too. Subscribed and loving it. rw |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
looking forward to updates.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
So, it's sure been awhile since I have posted here, with my wife deployed to Afghanistan, the job and the kids have been keeping me full time busy.. But I have been looking for and gathering parts for the project. I am taking pictures this week, but so far I have found the following.
While looking for these and other parts however, I also found myself yet another project.. Geez, I bet that's never happened to anyone huh... Guess what it is.. I found myself a shortwide bed in pieces, then I found a 1972 SWB frame and title, and today I found a nice really clean A/C cab.. So it looks like I will stuff all these into the shop along side the Blazer for a future build. now I just need to decide what front end I want. Hmmmm maybe a 68 Anniversay truck to match the Blazer? Well, that's for later. Focus! The only other progress is that my son found himself a 454 for his Blazer. Great - more work for me! Of course he wants it swapped in right away, but he is going to have to wait too. For now, I have to finish framing in a new front addition on my house before the weather changes and the wife gets home, so I am on a short hold with the Blazer.. I need to get pictures to document everything, and will post them as I take them. Thanks for hanging in there Drew |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Wow, nice scores! On the Blazer, I think you should run 67-68 buckets with a 69-72 console. Solves the buddy seat backrest issue.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Frizzle Fry,
Like we talked about last week, I like the bucket console idea. I have the buckets, now I guess its time to search for a console.. among the other 10,000 little bits and pieces.. I am also picking up the SWB frame and cab this Friday, will take pictures for sure.. |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
I love this build! that will truly be a rare truck! I actually acuired a 68 short wide CST (rollover) that was exactly like that truck featured in the article and the photoshop pics. When I purchased it back in 90 or 91 it still had the cab and part of the front clip. I scrapped everything but the frame, bed bottom and driver side bed panel because of the wreck damage. I have plans to use that bed one of these days. Anyway, I love this color scheme! keep it up!

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
mcbassin,
Thanks, I am really chomping at the bit to keep things rolling, I have so many little things going on at the moment. I need to make some more room in the shop so I can take he tub back off and finish the fab work.. |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Picked up the 1972 SWB GMC frame today, and snapped a couple of shots of the cab. Looks like rockers are in order, but the windshield, floors and cab corners are good. Will be hauling it home tomorrow or Sat.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Well I picked up a truck I can drive over the winter, it's a 71 1/2 ton 4x4
small block 350 with a SM465/205. It needs a few things of course, but should get me through.. I already got a stock grille and bumper to replace what's there and bent. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2787/...bc2be01941.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2653/...c230b32610.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2701/...2660f82151.jpg |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Looks like a good winter driver, nice buy!
|
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Thanks,
Yeah, I think it will work out great. It runs and drives well, just needs the usual rockers, and core support. I hope to have the grille and bumper changed this weekend, and I think that and a good cleaning will do wonders.. Pics when I get that far. |

Do you know where a guy could find more pictures of this truck. The link does not work. Is the magazine no longer published? I wish I could see that issue. Thanks Matt |

I made a copy from my issue of the Truck Builder article on Rick Parsons truck, you can download it here in PDF format.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
I got a little clean-up done to the new winter driver, I swapped out the grill and took the really bent bumper off and in place put the free slightly bent bumper on.. Still it looks way better to me already. I also noticed while doing an oil change I have the front left axle seal weeping a bit. Guess I had better take care of that right away... Here is a shot of how it looks today.
I did spend a couple of minutes trying to see if there was any shine left to the paint, at least it can look respectable for the winter. Turns out that it comes back pretty easy. If you look on the hood, you can see the spot I cleaned and waxed. Back in the shop it goes to give it the once over. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2758/...9de3363b92.jpg I also had to remove and re-do the power steering brackets, the PO. had left two bolts out and it was allowing the pump to move around, and the belt was slipping. |
Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Looks much better already! Great winter driver! I need a 4by...
