Looking good man. I just finished the rear portion of my frame this weekend. Sanded painted and put all new rear suspension in. Im not doing an extreme drop on mine like you but I understand the pride of doing it all yourself. Keep up the good work and pushing forward.:metal:

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

Thankz Tazman. I was not happy with the 2nd set of notches I made so I redesigned them again..... lol. I know. Make up your mind already. This time I built them with inner gussets plug welded in place. And the outside is braced also. Made from 2in. x 5in. x 3/8 thick tube. I believe that these are much stronger and will hold up to any abuse I will dish out. Ill post some pics tonight when I get home.

Ok I finished the bolt in/weld, Deep notches. Wasnt sure how tall they needed to be so I gave my self 11 in... Shoud be more than enough. I'll be putting them in this weekend, but till then here is the pics of my finished notches minus the bag mounts.

Update from yesterday, before the rain set in.... Grr....
Anyway, I got my cab off the frame and found that it is pretty solid with the exception of the floor pans next to the doors (which I forgot to get a picture of.) And the frame looks in great shape. I removed a few unused brackets and got a real good look at the PO's handy work on the Motor stands, which were wrong in the first place. But I have the correct ones to replace them.

I also got the hook up on some freebie Air tanks! Woot, one 8 gal. and a 5 gal.
Not sure where or which one I'll use but I got them.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

Thanx ;

That's what I thought but wasn't really certain ..

So many local Hot Rodders tell me they'd kill for one of these and I see them all the time in the local Pick-A-Part junkyards for $200 fan to flywheel , including the carbys ~ as they're usually late 1970's vintage ' Square Bodies ' I assume they have wretched smog cams that need replacing to get the real power I remember from BBC's back in the 1960's .

Sadly , I've tried telling folks exactly where they are and no one has ever ponied up yet .

I'm off looking in junked trucks for a 292 I6 right now .

Easier to find good running 454's , that's amazing .

They are hard to find here. And expensive if you find one to rebuild. But WELL worth it. I love mine.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

Well I took the dive and cut the frame for my notches. a little unconventional but my way none the less. The rear frame is a little crocked untill I can get it on flat ground and weld it together. its only bolted up right now, So I can do some adjusting.
Let me know what ya think and be honest...
as you can see I have springs just set in above the axle as a simulation of the bag ride height.

Thanks Mike. My wife gave her to me when we got married and I'm Dieing to get her on the road. I named the ole Bird after my wife. "Rae" for Rachel. She is an amazing woman and I am lucky to have her. She also "Let" me trade my 94 formula for my C10. :)

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

Well I'm gathering material to build a new frame. I'm gonna start from the ground up and just use the front section where the motor crossmember and front bumper mount. Everything else will be hand built by me. I have to build a layout table first then Ill jig up the frame rails and start asymbling (sp?) everything. I'm using 4.75 x 1.5 x .25 tubing for my main rails and cross member pieces.

What made you decide to build a new frame?

BigDaddyV 09-19-2013 01:15 PM

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

I didnt like the way mine was turning out and I know I can build a better frame. Not to be conceded or anything like that I just want my own custom Vess built ( me ) frame that when someone looks at it, they know I love my truck and that it is one of a kind.

ksshane 09-19-2013 02:15 PM

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

Thats awesome.

Wish I lived closer. I would try to buy your old frame from you. Your skill and talent far exceeds my own.

Re: Project "Nether~Storm" 72 swb

Well no real updates on my truck right now.:banghead: Just been gathering materials and Planning the design of my frame.:smoke: I am going 4 link instead of trailing arms. That has been a hard decision due to the fact that there are so many different ways to bag on 4 link. I like the parallel set up with another Link to the back with the bag closer to the rear bumper. More leverage more lift... :uhm:Hopefully I can get this all drawn and complete soon. I'm shooting at trying to lay out my frame this weekend and hopefully get it tacked up. Here are some of the ideas I've been looking at. Still undecided...:smoke:
