Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Here we go! The box is sat on it and it's looking like a truck again! We removed the 3" body lift and it looks like I may need to remove a leaf from the rear springs to get this to sit level with an engine and drive train in it. Now I have to decide if I want to cut the frame for the box to sit on it right, or cut the box and leave the frame so I can have enough room to mount a sturdy step bumper? Decisions, decisions! I have to get or find radiator support bushings so I can get the front sheet metal bolted on it. This truck is going to have to go back out side for a while and wait until I get some other things done before any more work gets done to it.
No more body lift. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK007.jpg Frame primered to keep rust off while it sits out doors. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK008.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK009.jpg Box sat on to get a feel for how a CC SWB looks. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK014.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK015.jpg More clean up on the front frame cross member area. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK010.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...NSTRUCK011.jpg |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
notch the frame so the box sits down properly and then give me a call, lol,
|
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
I might just cut it off seeing how the last 1" or so may not be needed. When I get to that point I might just call you for at least a rear bumper. For now, the $$$ will be going into getting the poor thing driving.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Looking good buddy! I just noticed that your truck is a 4x4 convertee as well. Got any pictures of that front cross member that holds the springs? It almost looks like that would give you some extra lift over the stock mounts but i noticed that you have what looks to be stock shackles on the rear.

no problem, it'd give me a reason to cut parts for 2 at once, I'm gonna build a set for my CCDRW that I got the parts from you for, just have to decide on how many lights I want other than the backups |

Here is a little something to look at while I work on rounding up money to buy new parts and paint for this truck.

I only have to drill 4 new holes and the bed will be totally bolted down. |

http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...708111712a.jpg the one pictured seams to be the most popular configuration of lights in the rear because I have sold 5 or 6 of them set up like this |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
I think on the front I was just going to use a stock one since I have a nice bumper/spoiner for it. On the rear bumper, I'd only want back up lights and not the extra ones like that one you have on yours.

Looking good! Hows the engine coming?
You had a D44 under it? (the picture with the custom shaped tie rod) :D |

Yep, it had a D44HD under it ever since I converted it to 4wd. Now it's in Brother's69C10's 88 V30 and I have my D60 under this truck finally. |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

|
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Unfortunately, I made no progress on the engine this weekend. IDK when I'm going to get it together.

I managed to get my 285's mounted on my 8 lug chevy aluminum rims. I am planning on putting them on the truck tomorrow to see what they look like.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
We pulled the truck out of it's hole this morning and tried to put the new to it wheels on it. There is a little issue with the rears. It seems the chevy wheels have to small of a hub center to go on the dodge D70. So it looks like i'll be looking for a place to open that hole up a little so I can get them on. These are 285's instead of the 265's I had on there before. Here's some truck porn!

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
I'm going to try and get some real progress done to this truck this weekend. This morning I pulled apart the short block I'm going to use. For having 500,000 miles on it, other than the oil being super nasty, it looked great inside. Now to get all the pieces cleaned up! Going to assemble the engine tomorrow, bring the truck inside and start building an engine cross member for it. Try to see about getting the engine, trans and transfer case in the frame by end of day Tuesday!

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Progress pics!
Cleaning the block and hard parts. Notice how black the crank was. Thanks to the PO for never changing the oil. I knew the owners of this one before and was worried because they don't take care of squat! Everything was coated and stained black! I used a case of brake clean on the block alone! We have to get one gasket in the am for the gear housing to block before I can install the cam. More progress pics tomorrow. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00385.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00390.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00393.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00386.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00391.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00389.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00392.jpg |

Hey cool truck and making progress. But one question, when you mean polish the crank, you mean the journals? By hand?

Hmm, I just know its Damn near impossible to get the journals 100% round and true with fingers.
Good luck, but nothing I would want to do twice. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Thanks Tecky11.
We made some more progress on the engine today. The long block is assembled. I have to set the valves and install the injection pump. Then I can install the new injection lines. After that we'll bring the truck in and set the engine in between the frame rails and begin building an engine cross member for it. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00395.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00394.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00397.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00398.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00405.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00396.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00400.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00399.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00401.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00402.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00403.jpg |
