Finally got the truck running and tried moving it around. So the throttle stuck and the brakes didn't hold up and it went through a fence. Luckily the body wasn't bolted down so it just slid on the frame not causing much damage. Just a dent in the rear door. No biggie.

Moved the truck back to my house to get ready to put it away for the winter. Going to keep working on it over the winter.

I have no idea why these keep posting sideways. Set a grill on it just to see.

Note I have 1x1 bars welded to the bottom of the frame to keep everything at the same height while doing body structural supports. I will cut them off later so it will lay all the way down. I also need to cut off part of the rocker which is keeping me from laying door. All the frame work is done to go that low

What width of wheels is everyone running? I think I'm forced to buy the porterbuilt arms to get the wheels in an inch. These are 8" and I can't clear the hood (that's why the hood isn't all the way down)

Switched to a 205 front tire which helped with some of my clearance issues. Think it's time for some porterbuilt control arms. Also messed with switching grills and hoods. Loving the gmc apache hood.

Thanks man. I found that hood a few months back. Matches the truck almost perfect.

Yup. It's weird how they made them slightly different. I am looking for a chevy apache hood so I will have them all. Lol

Thought about it. I don't know. Just something afraid of something breaking going down the road. Dont want to hurt anyone or wreck the truck. Guess it's just easier knowing the porterbuilt ones will bolt on, be good quality, and fix my problems. Lol. I may look into modifying mine though. I have a couple sets.

Went to my moms for thanksgiving. That's where I keep the panel. Tried fitting the hood. It now clears the tires. So even though I still want to get some porterbuilt control arms at least it will work for now.

Re: Free Candy Inside: 63 Long Panel Build

Made a little progress today. i worked on the wiring. Previously I still had the steering column out of the RV laying on the floor board with everything still plugged in. I would use it to turn the truck on. Today I figured out how to wire it into the factory 3 position 63 switch that was in my truck. I ran out of time to get it officially wired it but I was able to test it and see that it is going to work. One step closer. Lol

That ting looks mean with the GMC grill and the bumper laying on the ground.

Re: Free Candy Inside: 63 Long Panel Build

Not a ton of progress to report. I have been working on the wiring which has been a bit of a pain. Making a little bit of progress with that.

Around thanksgiving Michigan Metal Works ran a name your price sale. I was able to work a deal with them and have a set of control arms on the way. With this being as low as it is, I needed to bring the wheels in narrower. I wanted the Porterbuilt arms but the price was way better for the MMW ones.

Other than that I managed to pick up a space heater for the garage. I also bought a lincoln 180hd welder and a Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter.

Being a teacher and going on winter break here in the next week, I hope to get a decent amount done on the truck.

Cant wait to see more progress on this! definitely following closely!
My 61 is currently at Bonified Customs having Dave install the Porterbuilt front and custom rear bag setup. Just dropped it off this week and can't wait to see it laid out like yours!

Nice... I havent been down there in a week or two to see what Dave is working on. Are you building a truck or a panel? The Porterbuilt stuff is the way to go if you can afford it (which obviously you can). Now I'm curious.. Looks like I'll be making a stop by there tomorrow.

Re: Free Candy Inside: 63 Long Panel Build

I'll try to get some update pics soon.. Nothing really good, jut trying to work through all this wiring rats nest. I had cut a hole in the firewall to put the newer harness (95 RV donor) through. I made a template but somehow things turned out ****ty. After messing with it Friday I decided to rip all that out and start over. The original harness came from the drivers firewall went around and exited to the other side before going to the computer. I started looking at it, and there isn't many wired that go to the engine so I decided to rip it out and I'm going to weld up the hole in the firewall that I already cut. Originally I was planning on setting everything up like it was on the RV but I just have so much extra length in wiring that it isn't needed. So that's the goal this week, get the wiring cut out and finished. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Im building a truck, but would love to do a panel in the future. I just dropped it off this past week so it will be there for awhile. Mine started out as a budget build but The Porterbuilt stuff looks great and having the torsion bar suspension in mine, it was definitely the best route for me to go.(took a little extra saving for sure)
