Stalled till February...

The front axle on the White 'burb and my junk Yukon engine collection ate up all my Argon $$.

On the plus side Momma is pushin' me to get the bronze beast rollin' soon! And what Momma says... Daddy does!

Updates!

Got the gas for my welder, got a new regulator, and the rest of the parts to get it working!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1801.JPG

Got the laptop fixed... its now the frankentop

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1799.JPG

Got another project in the way for a week or 2

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1596.JPG

It's my buddies M1008. I got it running for him and need to finish up a few other things so it is drivable. It's a cool truck! I actually have the original TM's for this truck, so working on it has been easy.

I will explain this picture later

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1809.JPG

Today I cleaned up the garage so I can get to work on the Suburban door. I had help

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1808.JPG

She is a Monkey! She was picking the bolts for the Burb out of the cans, and trying to put them back on it! Momma took this picture.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1812.JPG

Also today I took my buddy to the coolest car and dog wash EVER!!!!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_F...0/DSCN1821.JPG

If not tonight, then tomorrow I am going to start welding the door up. I need to find a right door to slice up now!

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

My welder has been out of gas since November (even though I have lots of gas). I used lots of doors to make one phantom door. I used the rear of a passenger door for the front of the new door for the body lines. I used the rear of a drivers door for the rear of the new door. Multiple window frames to build the new window frame. I found 2 rusted out suburban doors for FREE for the window frames. I have 2 FREE cabs for the door jamb parts. Wife doesn't like back yard right now. Not to mention the other complete truck for the front sheetmetal. I have been collecting parts for 6 years now.

Yeah, I am looking for a right door so the contour of the 4th door matches the rear of the drivers door... then I will see how many more doors I will end up needing

Cuz it couldn't cut it as a pick-up, so it had to go into doing something else with it's life. Seems like it found its niche! Come on, you knew if you could have a pick-up box for a bath tub you would be all over it!

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

Parts are going together.

Hope tonight I can finish what I started on this piece. My son isn't feeling too well, so I had to stop here. I got everything tacked in, and started welding it up. I finish welded the top of the sill. It is taking a lot of time because I am keeping my heat down and checking and re-checking fit over and over again!

I really need to find a passenger door so I can keep going once this is done.

Body guys, what do you think? How am I doin?

Looks like how mine started. Just need to add a little here and cut out a little there and it will all work out. When your welds start to overlap you are getting close.

Just thought of something, if your still lookin for a door let me know witch one cause I might have an extra one lying around that I picked up for my extended cab build that I may not need. I think I am down to just needing some good burb front doors and have a surplus of truck doors.

I am looking for a right door. it doesn't have to be pretty, I am only going to use the back half of the door frame. I will give you a call tomorrow. If not, I will send you a pm in the PM... I may know where you can get the burb doors you are looking for too

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

Funny story... I have two wallets... one I carry, one I keep all my rarely used cards in...

For the past few weeks, every time my wife would ask me if I had any cash, I would check the one I carry and say "no". Well, today, since we were going to the Pediatricians office for the minions I grabbed the other wallet and handed it to my wife. While waiting in the room for the DR my wife is organizing my wallet and exclaims "Whoa! Babe! I thought you said you didn't have any cash!" (I am thinking she is messing with me) Of course I reply "I don't!" Next thing I know she is pulling a WAD of cash out of my wallet! Where the frick did that come from! (I still don't remember!) Well, needless to say, my senility bought me some much needed parts for the burb and momma a new double jogging stroller.

So I already have a parts list for the next time I go to the Doctors... and some updates and pictures will be here tomorrow!

Some swear by them, I swear at them! just think what damage one of those silicone beads could do to a ring and pinion! I will take a picture of how much I use on the cover... And it WILL SEAL! You can see I have NONE squeezing out of the pinion carrier pictured above... also I think my M1008 thread has another picture of one done right.

Eventually I will post the pictures of the clear RTV that was sealing some of the holes in the body! I'm not complaining about that one though... it DID keep SOME water out. I have had these disc brackets forever! I was going to use them on my 96 SAS rig, but they wouldn't clear the springs!

Glad you are following along! I'm hoping to have some sweet updates by the end of next week!

Here are some of my targets for these next two weeks:

Finish the 14 bolt (there's a surprise ending to this one!)
See what Chris has for doors
Get the C-pillar tacked in

If you get this I would love to get a close look at it. The 348/409 block is rare! Real neat camper. Hope you get it.

It's actually a 305 v6,still a cool motor!

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

I hope the reserve isn't too high. And if you do get it and need engine parts I have a V6 that doesn't run but is complete. Very odd engine if you study it close.

Re: 1970 GMC Suburban... for the family

Well it already went over my price range and the reserve isn't met yet, but, MAN! That color scheme ROCKS!!!! I am gonna have to do my research on it now, because I have never seen that silver (or grey) and that yellow (green?) together. And I know GMC had some wacky combos!
