Super nice Blazer!
Your body shop guy did a really nice job with the repair and color matching the paint you can't even tell there was a repair which is quite the testament to his skill.
After seeing the quality of his work I would have him do the rest of the rust repair because he is obviously skilled at subtlety.

Re: Ratchet's Blazer - 1970 2wd with Original paint

Thanks. I haven't done anything to it since Cruisin' the Coast last month. I have been working a lot to re-coop some money that has been spent getting it ready.

I have been driving it every chance that I get and will be taking it to a show this weekend. After that, I will swap the engine and trans from my other truck into the Blazer to make it easier for my wife to drive it. Hopefully, the drivetrain and complete interior redo will be completed by March for the Spring Goodguys show in Texas.

Re: Ratchet's Blazer - 1970 2wd with Original paint

Sounds like a good plan. What's the motor/tranny in the other truck?

smbrouss70 11-18-2014 10:38 AM

Re: Ratchet's Blazer - 1970 2wd with Original paint

Just a little 350 with a 700R4. I want to keep it stock-ish looking under the hood, so no LS for this one. My wife has neck and shoulder problems and the SM465 causes her to hurt if she drives it too much. I believe I will use a black trans mount shifter to keep the 4-speed look though, I may even leave the clutch pedal and use the 4-speed knob to throw people off a bit.

Re: Ratchet's Blazer - 1970 2wd with Original paint

I like the plan. The tall shifter in factory 4 speed shifter location seals the deal for me.

Looking good. I'd like to fix my rockers and I have one cab mount that is starting to go.

Have you started the motor swap.?

Re: Ratchet's Blazer - 1970 2wd with Original paint

I have all of the parts to build the motor, just haven't had the time to put it together yet. I did just get my old rusty headers blasted and painted with POR-15 High Temp Manifold Grey though.

Any more thoughts on the sliding ragtop??? I had something get dropped in the center of mine, so it looks like a ragtop is definitely in my future. :metal:

I defiantly want to do it, especially since they don't make a white softopper anymore. I just hadn't gotten to that yet. I'm still at the engine and drive train stage, and trying to get ready for the Power Tour.

The Blazer is now an automatic, 700-R4 to be exact. I found another high hump that had the hole on the flat part of the hump and moved the hole back to center the shifter in the hole while it is in park so that the boot looks good. I have the kit to be able to put the original 4-speed knob on the Lokar shifter and am leaving the clutch pedal, but locking out the linkage so it will maintain the 4-speed look. The 1st pic is in Park, the 2nd pic is in OverDrive.

That will mess some people up if they try to steal it. They won't know what to do with a clutch and no indicator of what gears to put it into.

I knew I would like it too, but now that I can see it, instead of imagining it, it is definitely better than I was thinking.

Never thought of that aspect, but you are right. I was just wanting to maintain the basic, no-frills look of the stick shift.

Love this Blazer. Do you go to Pate every year? I was there this last time and heard that this year was the largest ever and might have become the nation's largest swap meet.

Yeah, we go every year. It was another good year for me, parts-wise, I didn't buy another whole vehicle, thankfully!

She is the one who wanted me to do it. I honestly was OK with leaving the SM-465. I knew that there was no way that I could break that big, heavy sum b!tch.

Little updated pic of the interior. This past weekend I was able to swap to the freshly rebuilt Q-Jet that I got from Pate, and get most of the weatherstripping replaced on the top. It still leaks in the rain, but not nearly as bad. I still need to put in the vinyl floor mat from stockinteriors.com, mount the 4-speed knob, and repaint the console, door panels, and armrests. I also picked up a blue dashpad and Blue Blazer sunvisors at Pate that needs to go in. I have been driving it back and forth to work this week, and I am thinking I need A/C before the Power Tour.

Steven, would really like to hear some feedback when you install the floor mat. I ve heard bad things about all the mats out there and want to put one in mine....thanks

Re: Ratchet's Blazer - 1970 2wd with Original paint

Jim, it's in and I like it. The only place that didn't fit perfect was on the back side of the high hump, which is hidden by the console anyway. It seems to be of good quality but time will tell how it holds up.
