I really love this build. HATE the taillight situation, but to each their own. Carry on!

Wait until they are done. They will very closely resemble the fleetside truck taillights, just a little larger. There will be about a 1/4" wide bezels that will be copper plated just like the rest of the chrome. WES

All of the sudden my panels hood is oil canned!! Something smells bad here. I went to great lengths to be sure that I got an extremely nice hood for my Panel and now all the sudden it looks to be a pile of garbage!! Something has happened between the time I dropped off the hood and now. It is oil canned on both sides of the spine, and all the sudden it doesn't fit like it did. Not happy about it.

We also have more door fitting problems... Granted I am trying to achieve near perfect body lines but what the heck. It was all fitted before it went to media blasting. WES

(Sorry, but I am a little peeved right now.)

I would be peeved too. What kind of media did they use?

I am not sure. One of the questions I have to ask.

Re: I am getting excited about my Panel!!

Sorry, I'm not a bodywork guy at all. What does ''oil canned'' mean?
Also -- may be a trick of the light or camera angle -- but in an earlier pic of the hood it looked like there were 2 holes in the ridge, forward, like a PO had some big goofy hood ornament.

Re: I am getting excited about my Panel!!

No hood ornaments ever on this hood. It was as close to pristine as they get. Oil canned is what you get when the steel in a panel has been stretched. Pretty common to happen in doors and bedsides that have been dented then straitened. Makes the metal weak and unable to hold it shape with the slightest pressure applied. The term came from back in the day when oil was placed into rectangular cans and you would squeeze them to get the oil to come out faster. The sides of the can would pop as you pinched and released pressure on the can. WES

I'm thinking that the media blaster got it too hot....

Thanks for the explanation. The only oil cans I remember were light gauge steel ended 1 Qt cans with cardboard/foil-lined tube bodies. Then came the plastic bottles.

Ok here is what I think of as oil canning. These old style oil cans worked by pushing the bottom of the can, it was sort of bowed (stretched) out a little. It clicked in and out when you pushed the bottom. Similar to this clicker toy

Those too CG. Well another bit of bad news is my NOS hood hinges are bent now too. So after I found another hood it can't even be put on. So I decided to purchase new custom billet aluminum hood hinges. They are supposed to be a better hinge because they are more rigid than the stock hinges. So hopefully that will take all hood alignment problems out of the picture. They cost me over $600.00 so they better be good..

Thanks guys. I will see how the new hinges work tomorrow. I forgot to mark where the holes go for the door mirror on the driver's side.

Time for some updated pictures of my panel. I got the new hood hinges installed. I like the looks, but they are entirely too stiff closing the hood about the last 12 inches. If you let the hood go when you have it all the way down, it would jump up and hit you in the chin! Going to call Eddie Motorsports tomorrow and get them to send me lighter struts. Did a little more fussing with the gaps and tightened them up a bit.. Overall pretty happy at this point.

Not a lot of progress but we have started body working the doors and shaved the hatch handle.

Are you going to put a power activated release on the hatch?

Re: I am getting excited about my Panel!!

Yes, we installed the actuator and linkage earlier. It was always the plan to shave the handle.

It's been a while since I posted some progress pics of my Panel. I have a lot on my plate with our new products coming out, parts sales, new product development and trying to squeeze in some Panel love time... That's why it is such a set back when you get a product that doesn't function as it should. I am of coarse talking about the Eddie Motorsports hood hinges I purchased for my Panel. They didn't work as I felt they should with either the heavy or light duty struts so I sent them back. After doing a lot of research and watching a few videos I decided to try American Billet hinges. Wow what a difference!! The hood opens up all the way and stays open! Doesn't drop a bit. Matter of fact it seems to have a detente to keep it open. It closes nice without having to force it!! I will be looking into carrying their line of hinges for a new product to offer. Anyway here are a few pictures to show you how it's coming along. WES
