Re: Ken's 1966 C10 Short Fleetside build

This weekend I installed a new RetroSound Hermosa stereo and kick panels. I really like the ability to make it fit my dash though getting it properly aligned was time consuming. Sometimes I wish the PO would have cut the dash so I could just install a modern stereo.

At first the sound was barely audible when I connected to a set of high wattage 6-1/2 speakers (400w each) that I already had, and since the stereo is only 25w/channel it couldn't properly drive them. So I went out and bought some lower wattage Kenwoods and a small amp to fit under the dash. I bridged the amp to pull some more volume and still can turn up the volume max and not consider it "blasting". I added a third speaker to the center which helped bring the sound out of the weeds but its still not there for me. Perhaps I'm expecting too much out of a couple of 6-1/2 kick panel speakers.

I have a powered 100w 8" subwoofer on it's way that will go under the seat so hopefully that will fill in the lower range I'm missing. Ultimately I think I need to put some larger speakers behind the seat with a bigger amp when I remove the tank in exchange for an underframe tank. But that will have to wait for now.

I suppose it doesn't help that I have dual 2-1/2 pipes running through a set of Flowmaster 40's to drown out any music above 50 mph. :metal:
Most of the cab is already insulated with a sound barrier but I haven't done behind the tank where much of the drone is probably coming from. The mufflers are far enough back right before the axle and the pipes dump straight out under the bumper but these 40's still drone alot. Seems like its always a toss up... I want a good bark from the exhaust but not the drone feedback into the cab. :waah:

Update to the audio set up, the 100w powered subwoofer arrived today and I hooked it up under the seat. Made a huge difference. Output still seems weak from the kick panels but at least it rocks a little harder now :metal:

Thanks, it took me long enough to decide on and probably aggravated the hell out of the paint shop.
