The transition from the front rocker to the rear is done and I started fitting the cab corners. I will be glad to finally be done with this rust repair. Unfortunately I still have the passenger side to get done.

Way to stick with it, ton of dirty work involved there.

Thanks Front Range. There is a lot of dirty work involved. I am working slow and doing my best to do it right. I plan on having this truck a long time and don't want to have to do this again.

The cab corner is now mostly in place. The end is near for the drivers side.

Looks nice.

Thanks Beavis.

And so it begins...the passenger side.

The floor is a little worse, but thankfully the rockers are in much better shape. My original goal was to have the truck functional by next weekend. I'm thinking I am going to miss that.

Cool rig I dig it. I'll be riding along.

Thanks for checking in Rusty. I have spent my weekend so far getting my son's first car ready for him to start driving next week. We changed a control arm, new front brakes, changed seats, changed a mirror, replaced a brake hose, and changed the oil yesterday. Today was yard work.

On one of my trips to the Junk yard getting parts for my son's car I came across a Blazer tank laying on the front seat of a 70's Blazer. Of course I just had to bring it home. It is surprisingly solid considering the Blazer was completely gone.

After the first loose test fit, obviously the crossmember has to go and a forward mount needs built. The biggest obstacle I see is the interference with the passenger side upper shock mount. Nothing a hammer can't fix. :)

That fits nice, doesn't look like much clearancing needed from here.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

The picture is a little deceiving. There will be about 2" of interference around the shock. I'll either cut the corner off, flip it inside out, and weld it back on or just get out the big hammer.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I would hammer that. Only because it's hidden and it'd keep you from having to cut and weld on it. It could be done without looking hack.

This thread is awesome, and two things immediately come to mind when I see it.

1) total admiration of your metal fabrication skills.

2) I wish shipping wasn't so cost prohibitive because I have a rust free (and I mean rust free) 90 crew parts truck that I can't seem to even damn near give away here in CA.

keep up the good work.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

Thanks Zachary, my metal working skills still have a long ways to go, but they improve with every project. I even amaze myself at the things I can do now that I have a welder and some experience with it. Six or seven years ago I would have never imagined I would be capable of this kind of stuff.

Your rolling right along you'll be done before you know it

Well, it was supposed to be done by today. I know that goal would be a stretch.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I did some cutting on the Blazer tank tonight after playing with Jeeps all day. If the tow rig was done in would have been driving my Jeep, but I was stuck riding with a buddy. Anyway, I cutcut the tank so it would clear the rear shock. I just need to find a piece of 6" exhaust tubing to split in half and fill the corner.

It really fits the frame nicely and doesn't hang below the leaf springs.

Good progress. Are you keeping the saddle tanks too and going for super range? Probably can only run 16 gal versions with the short bed?

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

Just the one tank. I dont mind stopping for gas when on a trip.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I got a little done on the tank tonight. I finished cleaning up the cuts and started welding in the patch.

Who's paying attention? What is wrong with this picture?

You want the gas to feel like it is staying at the Motel 6. "We'll Leave the Light On." or in the this case, leave it in the tank. I've done similar stuff.
