Re: Some guys have skills and some have bills
What about the radiator. Look into the aluminum one. Let me know if you need a hand. That truck is gonna run great.

And for me it's been fun learning in the engine build, but I must admit the fun for me is definitely in DRIVING HER! Before the tear down and rebuild of the engine she was my daily driver for the past 7 months =) Posted via Mobile Device |

Got the engine back from the machine shop :metal: they couldn't do anything for my crankcase because it was already ground down too much. But they had another one that they cut .10 and the block is .60 also went with the flat top pistons.

So these aluminum heads were originally going to be put on a race truck. So they were ported out quite a bit and the valves were heavy duty and meant to handle Nitrous if needed. No... I'm not planning on nitrous, that's just what he was going to do before he sold the heads to me. Here is the Melling oil pump bolted down as well.

Put the color of choice on - bright orange, you should be able to see this engine even in the dark baby:ito:

We put on the heads and were stopped suddenly when we realized that the new Cam I received was broke in half  dangit!!! It sure did slow things down a bit. We stopped there and I have to send it back to Jegs. On the other hand I was thoroughly impressed with Jegs customer service. They said they would send me prepaid shipping tags on Monday and and I would not have to pay for the return shipping as well.
My buddy said it would be a good idea to get some new pushrods http://www.jegs.com/i/Proform/778/66890C/10002/-1 , a lock plate kit http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...20305/10002/-1 , and cam button http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...20390/10002/-1 as well. So these are on the way. Here are my shop cleaned oil pan and timing chain cover. We are going to paint them, but we did a quick mockup of the timing chain cover with a gray color my buddy had lying around and the edelbrock performer manifold. I'm still deciding whether I should paint the oil pan and timing chain cover orange like the block, use the gray finish in the mockup, or go with some chrome... Any thoughts???? |
Re: Some guys have skills and some have bills
I like the gray, but to be honest have never been fond of chrome on timing chain covers.

Re: Some guys have skills and some have bills
Nice build...I love the smell of RTV and paint curing on a new engine.
edit:That big A$$ fan I see you have will be handy when you break in that cam. I could use a fan that big. |
Re: Some guys have skills and some have bills
the port work on that head sure looks rough...

As for the manifold, have to change it up and return the Endurashine performer to Jegs. After closer inspection it was just a bit too small for the heads. If you see the "mockup" picture above you can almost see the ports peaking out. So I will be ordering a Professional Products Hurricane Manifold from Summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PFS-52030/?rtype=10 Also, decided on a real nice silver/gray for the oil pan. pic attached: |

Got some parts delivered today
And a little more progress: Clear coated the block, timing chain cover, and oil pan. We tack welded the oil pump and sealed the pan. Also since I got new push rods, thought a rocker arm upgrade was in order :metal: |
Re: Some guys have skills and some have bills
Why weld the oil pump?? :uhmk:

Exactly he said that they have come loose before so he put a small bead to ensure it did not come loose. |

We just put a bit of cardboard under there and hit it really quick. I guess it would have been a bit smarter to weld first then bolt on. |

I just painted the engine bay today!!
First we hit it with the pressure washer. Once it was dry we scrubbed it really well so it was nice and clean. The previous owner painted it a few years ago black it actually looked pretty decent. We didn't really rough it up or sand it down just sprayed it all black again. My buddy has a paint gun, and he had some extra black paint. I just bought a little paint thinner and taped her up... Not exactly a 100% attention to every little detail here, but I didn't want to pay a shop to do it. I know it will look a lot better then before :metal: Here are the before pics, the tape and the gun... below is the finished wet product... |
