Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Ok here a bunch of pics I will try my best to describ what is going on in each picture.

This what the inside of the glove box looks like after I cut the bottom off and added a piece of sheet aluminum to cover the hole.

Bottom of the glove box looking at the left side of it. I basically cut the sheet aluminum out in a rectangle and and folded it over the edges.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...l/IMG_1738.jpg

The right side of the box. I cut off the box on anything hanging past the hinge point. I used Rivets to hold the sheet aluminum on.

Ok the next group of pics shows the A/C and heat box inside of the cab. You can get a sense of how it fits and where it should be. Note I have not attempted hooking up the lines to it yet. It may and probably will be a PITA.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Thanks for the pics. Is there anyway you could have mounted it up higher, or that pretty much it because of the defrost ducts? Does it affect having foot room at all for the passenger? The reason I ask is that I'm *considering* removing the inside of the cowl in that spot if I can get a few more inches out of it that way - and take back some passenger leg room. DO me a favor and sit in the passenger seat and tell me if your feet hit it at all... please???

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

I have plenty of room in the floor for my feet. I am 6 feet tall and wear a 11 and half size shoe. I can actually lift my feet up high enough on the floor so my knees arent even bent. I wouldnt worry about cutting the cowl box out. It's not needed unless you wanted to make more room to work on the a/c at the part of the box where the lines come in.

You cannot move it higher and still hook up the defrost.

Thanks for your help!! Guess there's no need to slice it up!

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Yeah I wouldn't cut up anything you don't have to especially out of the cab right there. It bares some load. Structural integrity may suffer. If your bagged you don't want to give any on the strength of the cab. Don't ask how I know LOL.

Well I started working on other problems. It's too hot outside to spend more than a few minutes at a time so I got a new idler arm installed this morning.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

I think once I get it all in there it will be great. Just a pita to get it mounted up. I still have a long way to go. I have been dragging my feet on it. I am pissed off I still do not have all the pieces. I called the guy at Hot Rod Air again today and he said he would get back to me and did not ever call back. I hope to get the word out. There service sux. I really wish I never gave him the money for this stuff. I have been tempted more than once to call him up and say i want my money back and mail all the **** back to them.

Well more things happening today with the truck. I got another radiator fan. so now I will have 2 14 inch fans to cool off my Animal. I also got some different shocks for the front. The first ones weren't cutting it. They were the cheapo's and it bounced like a basket ball. I hope the the Monroe Reflex ones will stop the bouncing.

Well I am still waiting for the rest of the A/C parts. The alternator bracket and the controls still haven't come yet. I am calling the guy practically everyday now. We are approaching 4 months since I placed the order now.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

That sucks it is taking so long to get your A/C parts. I bought the system that is in my '79 CJ from Vintage Air and it went in really easy...well considering the Jeep didn't have any kinda A/C on it before and had the 302fi motor in it.

The truck looks GREAT considering the Rhino Lining. I like it better inside my Jeep :).

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Thanks. I wish I would have used vintage air but i used hot rod air. I wont again.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Yeah we got lucky and that heat finally subsided. They say it will be making a return to the triple digits later this week.

In other truck related news. I spoke to the guy at Hot Rod Air. He says for some reason he can't find my shipment. So he is going to make another control panel and ship it to me. I think it is B.S. but if he ships it out to me tomorrow and gets me a tracking number I will be satisfied. So maybe by the end of next week I will have A/C.

Unfortunately this has all led to me missing one of the biggest custom car and truck shows in the country. Heatwave in Austin Texas.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

I went to Heatwave a few times and had one heck of a time. It is an amazing show...HUGE. That sux you won't make it to it.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

As you may have noticed the Upper Radiator hose is on top of the Alternator. I have Ordered a replacement hose made of flexible stainless steel. Summitracing.com has them on clearance from Mr.Gasket. I got a 36" one that is blue powdercoated for 12.50 plus shipping. A 70 dollar hose I paid 17 and change for!! I also have a few other odds and ends to do like the hole under the controller. That was where the original panel was but I didn't like the way the new one fit there. So now I need a filler panel for that space.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

I thought the same thing but there isn't any way to get more belt around there. It does work and they have been selling these brackets for a few years now. As far as i know no one else has ever had any issues. I have other issues with alignment though. I am probably going to have to remove the a/c bracket to fix the alignment issue.

I also re routed the heater hoses. it looks cleaner under there now. I will post another pic soon.

hey orangeanimal.. who makes those seats? I have seen them in a few vehicles now. I want a set for my 89. those are the perfect mix of racing buckets and bench

OrangeAnimal 08-11-2009 10:13 PM

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

They are made by APC I bought them off of Ebay. Something like 300 shipped. The covering isn't that great though. It looks nice but probably won't last a really long time. They are three separate pieces. They each have there own sliders. They also come with a mounting bracket. If you decide to get them you can take apart your bench seat and separate the sliders so you just have the lower portion that bolts to the floor and then center the provided bracket on the mount and drill out holes and bolt it down. That's what I did and it is perfect.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

300 shipped? were they used? doesnt sound too bad. considering they want approx 350 to recover my old bench. I have always liked those seats. have you had much time in the seat? how are they comfort wise? thanks
