Hey Rob....on my 06 F-350 the rear doors (extra-cab, suicide rear doors) open outward away from the truck.....What about using these style hinges ??
The door actually pulls away a pretty good amount... Actually, these are just the same style hinges as the OG black crew, just behind the skin of the truck. So mabey they wont work. If you set the hinges just behind the door skin, would you have enough throw to get that sucker away from the truck ?? Check it out... - - |

Re: Crewcab build
Do you guys love making more work for me?
I'm really kicking myself for not grabbing a set of hinges from a lincon continental at the junkyard a few weeks ago! If I go the suicide route, the pillar between the doors can disappear, and I just have to work the latching mechanism them. Hmm, this might be less work total then trying to get the doors to work normally. I'm off to the shop soon, I'll snag my girlfriends camera to take good pictures today! |
Re: Crewcab build
Nice! Thanks for the pictures, it makes it so much easier to know what someone is talking about when you can see it. I'm going to my old car research area(pick n pull:lol:) before I go to the shop, to see if I can get some hinge ideas, and possibly snag some conti hinges.

John and his kids are super cool, it was great meeting you. Thanks again for the Coronas, George and I broke into them about 5pm, it was nice having a few brews after finishing up a day at the shop.:metal: I forgot the camera at the shop, but I now have the whole rear of the front cab cut off, the front up to the windshield of the second cab off, and have them slid together. All rough cut on the rear cab, the front is close to finish cut, with only about 6" more to finsh dimensions. I might be able to pull off using the stock hinges to suicide swing the rear cab doors, it will just be a matter of making sure there is enough room to clear where the front( or rearin this case!)doors dive in. This may be easier then I thought!:haha: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/cabcut14.jpg |
Re: Crewcab build
Isn't it funny how it always works so much easier in your head?:banghead:

Re: Crewcab build
Next time, I'll swing and stay longer...my kids were on a mission that day....nice sunny day and we were headed to the park to burn off some of that energy.
Keep the pics up.... |
Re: Crewcab build
what kind of bed are you going to use? wheelbase length?
And is it going to be lowered? |

Re: Crewcab build
So the next step is going to be to suicide the rear door hinges. I'm going to attempt to do this with the stock hinges, and remove the whole post that they attach to on the front of the cab. If that doesn't work, I'm going to have to look around for some nice suicide hinges, but I think it will. One the rear door is in and cut down, I can fit the 2 cabs together, check allignment, and start on re andgleing the front doors.

Re: Crewcab build
You're not wasting any time on this one! Lovin' all the cool pics.
So, you decided on the suicide doors. That's gonna be sweet. I do have a question, though. For the latch assembly, are you going to use the B pillar/latch setup as the front of the rear set of doors so that the front door will overlap slightly and be seamless?(not sure if this ? makes sense/is worded properly) Just wondering on the exact plan of attack. |
Re: Crewcab build
You not wasting anytime at all.
At this rate you'll be done before February. |

Re: Crewcab build
OK, that makes sense. I thought you were going to set it up without a center pillar similar to the late model extended cabs and I was just trying to envision how that would work exactly. Thanks for the clarification and I will be looking forward to your updates/progress reports. Good luck on the build!!
