My '66 Burb runs a 292. Peppy off the line, but no top-end with my 411 gears.

Definitely keeping mine though. I've been a six-cyclinder fan since I drove a '50 Chevy hay-truck as an early teen. I loved dropping the hammer and listening to that big six gear-drive wind up. Pissed off the farmer I worked for something fierce, but hey, I was only 13.

I'm gonna leave mine pretty stock. It's only got 34,000 on it, though it sat for almost 20 years. Aside from a few leaks, and a definite need of new paint, and peripherials, it runs great. For now, I'll just seal it up, and do a header and something carb-related--maybe dual Rochester B's, or a two-barrel.

Possibly the best running worst looking engine I've ever had!

Check it out:

Not sure if anyone posted this guys (Leo Santucci's) 292 setup. http://www.cdpautomachine.com/leo/leo.html

While it is in a Stude, it is still a pretty awesome engine.

The work he did on the head alone is pretty impressive and definitely not an off-the-shelf-deal.

I have been a fan of 292's ever since I had to change the lifters in my pop's 70 3/4ton- gads, probably 25 years ago now

Also, Greg64, as a fan of TBI's I can appreciate your setup- I bet it gives pretty reliable performance.
Dual TBI's is do-able, but would likely require some ecu changes- probably additional drivers for the injectors. thirdgen.org and/or http://www.dynamicefi.com/.

go back and read all of this post; a lot of the info is in there;

Leo Santucci's book Chevy Inline 6 Power Manual....a must have- has stuff you have never even heard of!.
www.inliners.org
Langdons Stovebolt
http://www.t6racing.org/
clifford engineering.com
self racing.com (for race engines)
offenhauser intakes are still around, even at Summit

PS. I just scored a '75 292 that looks like a solid engine. :metal: Can't wait to get done, hopefully in the next year.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

Rafael,

Summit, Jegs, any of the places that you can buy parts for these will sell the split header. The intake you'll have to search the web for Offenhauser and there are a number of places for them as well. Right now I can't think of any off the top of my head. Now if your looking for performance stuff, that is a little harder to come by. Check out Patricks, Just google "Patrick's" it should be the first one on the search. He has alot of stuff for the older inline stuff. Remember the Sixes were used in novas and other autos. So there are a variety of places to find parts/dress up items for them. I also know that LMC sells components for the old sixes.

I bought my carbs and intake off Evil bay, the headers were Jegs, The alunimum cover and side plate were from Patricks mentioned above.

Hope this helps.

Understand that these trucks are heavy, there are no garentees that your milage is going to be better than a small V8. These trucks were built to run 50-55 highway speed. Start trying to twist 65-70 out of them there going to drink the gas.

It's pretty much a wash. Definately different, but just about even money for gas consumption.

Regards!

There are many days that I wish I had stayed with my 250 inliner in my truck, but next vehicle will be an inline 6. Love the engines.

Here is mine. 250 with a clifford intake and 4-barrel holly. Going to keep her in my finished project. Its been completely rebuilt, just need to clean her up and paint and throw on some headers.

I wish I had a pic of the 235 in "Honest Charley's" '50 AD "WD-50"
That was the best looking period inline I have seen.
It had a Wayne V/C and Lifter cover.
a Wayne 2x2 with 2 glass bowl Holley's.
on those had old spark arrestors. (IIRC)

This is the truck, I believe it went to califor-ni-aye.

Hope this helps some. As you can see, the air cleaner and throttle linkage is a little close to the booster but not causing any problems.

I was walking up to my house earlier(I live on a very busy street), and heard the rap of a I6 with glasspacks. I saw a late-40's early-50's chevy truck rolling down the street. Man those things sound sweet!

My buddy's dad had a Korean war era Duece and a Half crane with a 302 GMC in it, with nothing but a stock exhaust manifold and a few feet of plumbing pipe ran up through the hood. Some sort of ancient two-barrel fed the thing, and it screamed like a drunken prom date. Never forgot the heart-poiunding sound of that old beast.

It went about 45, and broke my buddy's thumb trying to steer it a logging road once...

The motor's since been rebuilt, and I hear it powers a small commercial log tug around Puget Sound.

I imagine the crane is still rotting in the misty woods of Columbia County.

Hello guys,

I just wanted to say you guys are making me cry bringing back all my old memories when I was running a 261 built engine from a Chevy semi bored to 278, balanced, JE 12.5 dome pistons, ported and polished head with cast iron headers, Isky cam all of this with a one barrel carb in a 53 Chevy two door sedan called Mr 6 for a good reason because it blowed away the built flatheads, Olds rocket 88's and a bunch of 283 Chey's.

I did get beat one time by a 292 Chevy with roller cam and four barrel, polished head, balanced and I heard a roller crank although I have never heard of one.

Thanks guys for listening to my love from fifty years ago but at 68 I would still like a built 292 in an S-10 Chevy

Not a great picture but one more to add to the pile.I'm so tired of people asking why I didn't put a V8 in my truck.
