I really dig this rig really makes me want to get a hold of my neighbor's 68 C30. It has the 9 foot wb with a 327 and a grain bed. It's got the original paint pretty low miles, and not stupid rusty which is rare for around here. He uses it as a wood truck.

Mine is no trailer queen. It has hauled fallen trees, leaves/grass, remodel rubble, concrete, gravel, dirt, trash from evictions, landscaping materials, and whatever else we have thrown at it. This is one of the best tools I have ever bought. Someday when I have more money than brains (won't take much money) I am going to fix it up and retire it.

The Neighbor's truck is no trailer queen either and If I'd get it never would be. It really needs a 4x4 conversion I think it would look tough. And make it alot more useful

With fuel prices the way you are, pretty much SOL and broke if you aren't drivin something like that, ahaha.

While I'm workin on my truck I'll be more than happy to stick to my dad's lil Nissan pickup, I can keep puttin $10 and keepin it at a 1/4 tank! :P

More pictures from today.

The first picture is Todd working.

The third picture shows the power steering bracket, yes, it's rope. The brackets were supposed to get here today but they were a no show.

Fourth picture is the hydro boost setup.


Tons of progress today. Brake pushrod was extended 3/4", brake lines were run, power steering lines were run, brakes were bled, power steering was bled. And a few little things like new heater hoses and trailer lights were all sorted out.
All we have left is the power steering brackets and then she should be ready to roll.

The biggest thing we learned is that the one-ton 67 upper and lower control arms work great for the disc swap, we just had to use the 1975 one-ton upper and lower ball joints.

Oh crap! I'm getting fat!!! I'll have to back away from the nightly ice cream, maybe.

we need to get pics of the brake lines that we ran and the mounting of the combination valve.

should we disclose our method of pushrod extension?

Another update:

Brackets came on Monday and we got them all on the truck. I started to drive home but had a fair amount of smoke coming from under the hood. We pulled over and checked it out and the return line was leaking on the exhaust pipe. We also had no brakes. We drove it to Todd's house and left it.
We just need a short 2" section of hose for the return line to fix that.
The brakes we aren't pushing the pedal far enough to engage the switch so some slight fabrication or a longer switch should solve that.
Then we will try to drive her home again.

The brakes work amazingly well, night and day compared to the old power drums. Just need to fix those two small problems and then we will be homeward bound.

I will/should have the PS leak dialed in tonight. I got some hose and a couple high pressure clamps from work. maybe tomorrow night I will get the brake light switch fixed. I am thinking of robbing the one from the 75 (looks identical) and making the plunger shorter. then when you come on Saturday we can enjoy the weather instead of working.

got the leak fixed and took it for a ride around the block. WOW!!!!! you better be prepared to have your face planted into the windshield. hydroboost is ultra cool. I'm gonna swap mine as well.

I went to a wedding up in your neck of the woods 68c15. It was at nativity, and the reception was at Dakota Dunes there was a string quartet, and an open bar for everyone. Talk about a spendy wedding. It was a cool area just stupid boring to drive to Waterloo though. I need twistys to clear my mind at times.

I wonder if they aren't more touchy because of the smaller rear drums? Would it be pushing more fluid to the back with the larger rear drums and the front be not as touchy?

no, that's the way hydroboost is. ever drive an Astro van? same thing. low pedal effort and lots of boost. instead of having 17" vacuum you have 350+psi.

WOW, that job sucked big time!!!!

a piece of advice for anyone attempting this swap; make damn sure the parts you are swapping in are good. and when you find yourself replacing JB8 calipers at 4:00 on a Saturday make sure the new ones have bleeder screws that open before you leave the parts store!!!

Well we made it, the truck drives like a champ. It took a lot of work. Saturday we began the maiden trip home. We made it about 5 miles and I pulled over to inspect a burning smell. Smoke was rolling out of the front wheels. The calipers were grabbing.
After an hour cool down we turned around and went back to Todd's house. We replaced both calipers in the street. One of the calipers didn't fit right and we spend a good 20 minutes taking material off the caliper with a file. That part sucked. And then the rounded off bleeder, what a pain.
I made it home just as it was getting dark. A few stops to check everything over, and no more problems. The truck will go in this week for an alignment. I have a sway bar to get put on, and an internally regulated alternator.

Yesterday the dump truck went to the landfill three or four times with no problems. My employee did complain that it had no power once you hit 45 MPH. I explained that 45 is top speed. It's a work horse, not a speed demon.

So we have spent many weekends on this thing, next weekend is a family weekend. When the boys are older we can consider wrenching a family weekend, but we have a few years before that comes.

tell ya what, line me up with an equivalent job and house and we will move to Brookings. that way we can work on our 3 trucks and if things go sour we can just call it a day. plus the wife and I would be closer to the good lakes.;)
