Would it be possible to start a Historical/ This I know section.
Example: Historical:
The 60-66 Chevrolet/GMC were designed by John Delorean based on Airplane Design. Thus the nickname Aerotrucks.

Example: Historical:
Dinsmore was the Company that supplied GM with Compasses. Dinsmore the company no longer exists.

This I Know:
The heater resistor in a 62 Chev Truck is the similar to the heater resistor in a 75. You just have to file the 75 to recreate two notches at each end of the resistor.

Historical: The standard mirror arm of the 1960 Chev/GMC were cast. 61-66 were of a bent tube design.

Then we would ask of other members to verify the entries.

aerotrucks...I never knew that one. Good info!

Here's one... 62-66 trucks have the same hood, but 62 is the only year that they had clear parklight/signal lenses.

True 63 was the year that all turn signals had to be Amber.

Irving Airchute Co. supplied seatbelts to GM. IBC Model # 5000. Rear Seat Belts from full size Chevrolet cars are the same as Seatbelts in 62-63 Chevrolet Trucks of those years.

I think it might be a good idea to state your source before posting what would be classified as "Historical" fact. Just to make it more credible and distinguish it from the "This I know" catagory.

Your thoughts?

I agree! Unless we can state the source the heading" Historical " cannot be used. I'm trying to document interesting facts pertaining to this 60-66 series. Little tidbit information which makes our trucks unique. I stand corrected. Thank You Greg

Sounds like a great idea. How can we make sure that once we get to X number of pages that facts aren't duplicated without a poster having to read through all pages and potentially missing something. Could we have like a summary page that is maintained by a moderator?

Accessories: ( love this section )
We could have information in each category.Part# freaks can look in their books for part #s
An Introduction page for the interesting tid bit's. For example who designed the 1960-66's. Who ran the joint.
Would we be allowed to download original material? Like 1960 or 1963 Chevrolet or GMC Custom Accessory Book? Details in the Silver Book's etc.

Yes your right, but my 63 GMC had clear lens but had a amber glass housing..

This sounds like a cool page to check out.....and I agree, it will get to be alot of reading.
But I think it might be a lot of work for a moderator to try and keep up with.

Well, I can't speak for John, but as a fellow 60-66 Chevy Truck Forum moderator, I know I would want to "maintain" as little as possible. It's hard enough having to read every post to make sure every body's playing nice!

I could glean all pertinent information (along with bibliography) from the midst of the comments and discussion and list facts (giving credit to the person who provided it) according to categories on my web page with an index that I would maintain, which could then be linked to from this forum! Just like my wiring diagrams & idea pages are already. So no matter how long this thread gets, you could always quick link to the facts page on my site for a quick review under a specific topic.

It would mean a lot of sifting & typing and layout, but I think it would be worth it in the long run to provide reliable, easy to find information. A place for a Chevy nut to find out more about the heritage of his or her project. Meanwhile this thread would carry all of the discussion and commentary that makes forum threads fun to post in.

Just keep this thread going and post your sources - pictures would be a nice touch too. I'll do the rest on the side lines. I'll have some large blocks of time coming up in a week as I have a manditiory company imposed furlough coming up on the 13th.

I should have something put together on my web page by July 18th or so.

did you know that the backup lights on the 60-66 fleetside trucks are the same design as the 1954 buick passenger cars?..........also read a magazine article once about a guy who went to work at the chevy truck design studio in 1962 and they were getting ready to start on the new design truck for 1967.anyway he did some redesigning sketches on the 1966 truck body(gave the 64-66 body a new fresh facelift)showed them to his boss and his boss said they are great,but if i show them to upper management we will never get a completely new design truck.he made him throw them in the garbage.i would have loved to saw those sketches.

And here are the backup lights. Would be kind of cool to add the brake lights to our truck instead of the rectangular ones.

My fleetside bed is Frankenstein'd together from a '62 and a '66. From working on the truck I noticed that thru the production run they implemented some cost cutting strategies. The tailgate hardware was bolted on in '62, but by '66 it was spot welded. Also, the support posts inside the bed followed the outer contour in '62 but by '66 were cut straight down. The final difference was the the top rail of the bed curves around into the bed and is nearly 1'' wide in '62; by '66 it is only about 1/4'', saving a substantial amount of metal over the run of truck production, I would imagine.
