Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Damn man, that really does suck. Was looking forward to seeing the truck all nice and pretty, then some jackass backs into it and bolts? Man, that really sucks. Good luck fixing it, got a road ahead of ya' now, thanks to some piss ant who decided to run off. Good luck.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

yep we was all in the house and heard it but thought it was ice coming off the roof, roads were clear and dry too, only found out because dad went to go get some smokes and couldn't get the door open. I had tried it earlier and didn't pay attention.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Sh!tty luck man. Look at the bright side, though. You may have to do some repairs, but nobody was in the truck, so nobody got hurt.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

A mr. gasket competition air cleaner, 9790
http://www.streetsideauto.com/p/mr-g...petition-9790/

which has a 2 inch drop base and I can't use it with my tbi, so I have to order a new raised base.

I also ordered my chrome centerbolt valve covers, spectre 5260
http://www.streetsideauto.com/p/spec...over-set-5260/

I bought a nice bowtie oil fill cap from proform/gmpp @ advance for them, but someone forgot to mention the oil fill for those covers is screw in like stock. However if you buy those covers in a kit from summit it has a push in oil fill, but the one hole is bigger, they are listed to be all 1.25 and one is 1-3/8, not 1-1/4. So I had to take back my nice oil fill cap and breather and order new ones.

Then I got a chrome PS dipstick as well, spectre 1798
http://www.streetsideauto.com/p/spec...dipstick-1798/

The cap aint round like that either, it's more flower like shaped, like the stock oil fill cap in the valve covers. So it'll match the oil fill cap I just ordered, which starts round 2.....

oil fill cap that matches the PS dipstick, spectre 4320
Amazon.com: Spectre 4320 Chrome Screw-In Oil... Amazon.com: Spectre 4320 Chrome Screw-In Oil...
I need valve cover gormmets too, spectre 5333
Amazon.com: Spectre 5333 Combination Baffled... Amazon.com: Spectre 5333 Combination Baffled...
I decided to get a chrome pcv instead of stock, just to match the breather, plus I like these style pcv's. spectre 4284
Amazon.com: Spectre 4284 Chrome Push-In PCV Valve... Amazon.com: Spectre 4284 Chrome Push-In PCV Valve...
Also want to see if my block is completely drilled for mech. FP so I got me a block off plate to replace the stock, comes with bolts and gasket, but I have a gasket in case it doesn't. spectre 42463
Amazon.com: Spectre 42463 Chrome Fuel Pump... Amazon.com: Spectre 42463 Chrome Fuel Pump...

since my air cleaner base would not work I ordered this one..
SUM -G3000B
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G3000B/?rtype=10

my other breather trans dapt 4870
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-4870/?rtype=10

offset air cleaner stud just in case, spectre 4215
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-4215/?rtype=10

some valve cover hold downs/bolts SUM-3426
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G3426/?rtype=10

and to match an air cleaner nut spectre 5358
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-5358/?rtype=10

I got the T-bar ones cheaper then regular hex head bolts in chrome, plus I like the wing nut or t-bars.

Man you went all out, make sure to post pics ;)

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

not quite lol. I was planning to get a chrome rad. cap, master cylinder cover and rad. overflow cap. But being on a tight budget and my air cleaner not fitting I had to give up some stuff for now to get the drop base and pay the shipping cost or handling I should say from summit.

I'll try to get them later, and also looking into a trans pan, dipstick for motor and trans, and diff. cover, maybe one day an oil pan. That way alot of the show stuff is done and I may take it to some shows one day.

I'm looking to try and clean up alot of the wiring for the engine sensor or hide it if I can, and maybe repaint the inner fenders and frame and stuff too.

That's a big 10-4 on pics though, will do good buddy.

scotts62 02-02-2011 11:41 AM

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Make sure you grind the flat surfaces like on your trans pan and such with a grinder because if you just throw it on it will leak, even an oil pan with silicone so ill just warn ya and if you do that it will be good ;)

got me a water neck and t-stat today. I was gonna get the straight up style but nobody had one, I think the center out 45 degree style should work, I'll see.

Heck ya, is the mrs doing better man?

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

yea her BP has been good, it gets high when she goes to the doctor's office, but at home it's good. They don't want to beleive she has the white coats syndrome, where you get scared or nervous when going to the dr.'s office, so they want her to see a kidney doctor, said it's the first thing they check on young women when they have high BP.

I told the dr. to his face she only has HIGH BP when she comes to the dr.'s office, at home it's fine, and I know our BP monitor is right, within a few numbers of there's.

it ran 120's over 80's at home, dr. office was 150's over 90's and ours confirmed the same, as did their manual one the nurse did by ear.

I'll have more once it's warm again, since the air cleaner and wing nut are installed. Plus the rest of the parts should be in around the end of next week.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Been working on things today, moved the ESC module and the MAP sensor, removed their intake bracket, cleaned up some wiring, still more to do. Paint, more chrome, maybe more wiring or relocation.

Here's pics though....

non a/c setup..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3926.jpg

relocation..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3924.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3921.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3918.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3923.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3919.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3917.jpg

I also removed the egr, it wasn't working or throwing codes, but if it does no big deal.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_3927.jpg

FYI I used an egr block off plate and bolts for older style motors, it works, the holes need to be elongated though, and it's very close to not covering the lower hole, but mine doesn't leak at all.

looks good!!!

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

be alot better sometime in the future lol, more chrome, but most important, repaint and stuff. it may be awhile, when I do the firewall in black I'm gonna jerk both fenders and inners off, maybe the whole front end, paint it all up, reassemble, and when I do the motor I'm gonna take all the plugins off the intake, repaint it, then put on all the chrome. Not gonna do the block or heads unless I see areas that need touched up or whatever.

more pics, cleaned up more wiring and rerouted plug wires, plus pics of the other chrome I had already put on. I gotta get another set of wires or at least a couple to change out, mainly the no. 1 which is too short to tuck under.
