Re: my 50 build... why not?

Forgot all my metal tools to bring and work on the pickup this weekend. So metal work is slow going. Heres what I did on the firewall.

Stock.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q47/tim_bo16/109.jpg

Cut apart, Pie cut taken out of passenger side, and tacked in. Drivers side moved over 1.5" or so to make the whole centered side to side.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...bo16/088-2.jpg

Now, its just the fitting game. I might work with the top radius on the passengers side a bit to match the drivers a bit more, but I think it looks fairly porportional so far.

ARB welded up and back in.

This truck is absolutely amazing, That ARB looks mean as hell!

Re: my 50 build... why not?

this is a nice build, wish i could find a place to work on my 83 stepside, no one around my area is willing to rent a section out so it sits in primer and 100 peices, but cant wait to see more of your truck, love the big tires out back, and cant wait to see the turbo motor

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Thanks guys. I also absolutly love the way the arb looks. ughh. The starting of a dream come true!

I hear ya stepside83. It kinda sucks because this is about 100 miles away from where I'm currently living. So its pretty limited with my work/band. All the parts are taking up my dads 1.5 stall garage. haha

Also, The rear fenders should be back in primer sometime soon. I just hate doing more body work on my own stuff when that's what i do all day everyday.

I'm in the same boat, I'm a mechanic. It's awefully hard to gather motivation at the end of an 11 hour day to come home and continue.

I'd so much rather just drive the piss out of it :smoke:

Well, I finally got a weekend free to work on it just a bit. Only just a few hours work. This thing is going to take forever at this rate!

Gotta love plazma cutters.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Thanks!

This weekend was one of those where it seemed like NOTHING got done. I spent all friday night, all saturday, and all sunday morning just welding and grinding. YUCK!.

I got both firewall patches put back in.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/003-36.jpg

I had do a huge amount of shrinking to get it flat again.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/008-30.jpg

I decided to go ahead and weld up the back of the cab seam. I'm glad I did. Also filled the original filler hole.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/002-42.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/005-35.jpg

Not too much warpage!
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/007-30.jpg

Here's where it was when I left today. Filled a bunch of holes, also mounted up and welded the under dash brake booster brackets to the drivers side firewall patch I just put in.

What have you guys seen/used for a good "race style" low back seat? I want something with bolsters, and no headrest, but everything I find are $400 a piece. I'm kinda thinking I might have to bite the bullet and do it. I've looked at Teas seats, and I'm really looking at are Procars low back seat. They sell them un-upholstered, I just don't see prices anywhere. I'll call on Monday.

nice work...

keep us posted on the seat details, they look nice if the price is right!

nebdrummer 02-20-2012 10:07 PM

Re: my 50 build... why not?

I ended up picking up those seats. The quality far exceeds my expectation for the price. Very nice pieces. I called for pricing on the bare seats. The price difference was only down to 280 each.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/003-38.jpg

Also, Looking at the steering column I had already, The top plastic piece was cracked, and I didnt like how long it was, limiting how low i could get the steering shaft to go through the firewall. I started looking into the shorty Ididit columns, then remembered that the ones I knew of didn't have the ignition switch in the column. I started looking around, and I did find that Ididit just came out with both the 12" and the 16" shorty columns with ignition switches. Those were right around 500 bucks each though. Little too steep for my liking so I kept looking. Summit racing of all places, had keyed columns. No shorty ones, but 28". 6" shorter than the one I had. I still might try cutting it down a but, but I'll mock it up how it is and see if I like it enough. The summit one is right at 350! It also comes with a steering wheel adapter. Also it seems like a very nice piece.

Other than front control arms, my money spending is pretty much done! I know there will be many little things here and there that will add up, but this is about it for the big stuff. This weekend I'm hoping I can get up north to work on it a bit. We'll see, I might be painting my dads motorcycle parts!

ill most likely start on it right after BTT50's so i dont end up messing anything up worse than it already is.

plans of now, im HOPING to raise the bed floor like that amazing green 52? (project farm truck i think is it?) thats on here. I think that looks very clean. but the final decision will be made when i start doing my measurements.

wheels, cragar 15x12, 4.5 backspacing. hoping to upgrade to weld's weldstar wheels with the black centers down the road, but i wanted to cheapen it up a bit.

tires.. MT Sportsman S/R 29x15x15. should give for a pretty meaty look!

thats a 275/60/15 on there now.

Jegs. If you are interested in the full cragar set, I could probably part with them for the right price! They havent had a full vehicle weight on them yet.

I ended up getting the old mans parts painted this weekend. I figure'd I'd show you guys the parts. They turned out pretty awesome!

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Got some work done this weekend...

The new steering column was longer than I had hoped, but we got it to work. I took off the bottom retaining plate of the column and welded it to a 2.25" pipe, then welded it to the floor. It acts as another support.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/003-41.jpg

I also got rid of the humps on the lower part of the firewall sections.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/001-42.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/004-43.jpg

metal work is done on the passenger side.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/007-33.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/005-40.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/002-47.jpg

Starting on filler work. repairing the **** that a body shop couldnt. Also shaved the filler hole. I forgot my slide hammer for my stud gun, so I couldnt finish the drivers side of the firewall.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/006-34.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/008-33.jpg

pretty decent leg room.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/006-33.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/005-39.jpg

I had to cut up the brake pedal to get the curve I needed to fit the floor. I will most likely be getting Lokar brake pad and a nice Lokar gas pedal.

It's been a while since I've worked on this thing. I'm in the process of buying a house, so in a month or two, this should really start to take off as far as progress goes.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

little updates

got the carb base/cleared

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/f389586e.jpg

cab in first prime

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/002-50.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/003-44.jpg

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...o16/006-36.jpg

Now, I just have a bunch of little stuff to weld up on the frame, then the frame will get powder coated or painted. Not sure which one yet. then after that, the cab will be set on the frame permanently, then sent off to get the cage installed! When that gets done, then the real progress starts. I get to move it to my own house! :metal:

Re: my 50 build... why not?

This whole house buying thing really slowed down EVERYTHING. I did finally get it moved down to my garage. Now, I just need to sheetrock the roof and paint the walls, buy and setup a new motor for my 50 dollar air compressor, and buy another whole set of tools. lol. Then I'll get back to business.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Been working on getting all of my parts down to my house, completely enclosed my car port and made a locking gate for it, so thats where all my time and money has gone.

Still nothing really to update on but the rear fenders are ready for paint! I'll post pictures as soon as they get out of the booth.
