a buddy of mine offered to put the Burb in his garage during painting! very cool of him.

since I am inside I figured i do some more stuff
repaired a hole in the rear fender.
repaired some rust and holes in the cargo door

and making some progress

it now has 4 layers of white on top. finally no red coming through.
I have one coat of black on and need one more. the black covers like the best. allmost in one coat.

I need to take the rear bumper off to paint the red thing between the bumper and the chassis.

it looks kinda nice without the running boards. I might not put them back on.

I do need a step of some kind so grandma can get in the car. any ideas?

hopefully fixed a leaking radiatorconnection by putting some good old JB Weld on there. first of course cleaned it very thoroughly...

damnit! I let the JB Weld dry overnight 20:00 till 8:30h in the morning, but it started leaking again today.

So I have let it dry for 12,5hours, but that is probably not enough......

I'll fix it again tonight and let it sit for 36hours. hopefully its solved then...because I would hate to take the complete rad out, because I think the tranny cooler is also in there.

is it hard to disconnect and then reconnect the tranny cooler?

it dosn't look like there is an external cooler(usally out front of regular rad)
no pressure when not running
so just the two lines (yellow)undo
and i baggie the ends so they don't drip and just a strip of duck tape over the tranny fittings on the rad to lift it out
when i've used the JB i've found more thinner coats work better
but havn't used it on a rad

thanks man! I applied JB again yesterday and I am now letting it rest for 36h before starting the engine again. If it doesnt work, then I will probably take the rad out and solder it outside the engine bay

I changed the original radiator for a Spectra Prenium CU730...

was a b1tch to fit, what should be a bolt-in-replacement, became a supercustom-replacement...the rad was thicker and high then the original...

Rubbers didnt fit, top radiator brackets didnt fit...etc.....

took the eco-module of the firewall today. I also tried to remove a lot of the smog wiring, because all the smog stuff is gone. But they all run to the back of the engine and I cant see where they go. Can I just cut these babys?

all the connectors are (when facing the engine bay from the front) to the left of the engine and run to the left rear side into a wire protection plastic hose...

This has been a very interesting thread. I like that tach on the left, the led's in the guages. Visor makes a big difference. The new radiator is very nice looking. Did the truck come with those dual batteries? Was this truck orginally a diesel? I will be roller painting the bottom half of my truck when the time comes.

thanks man! No I have no clue why it has dual batteries. I bought it like that and changed both old batteries for new ones. I guess the previous owner was a big user (hahaha)....

My 86 gas also came with dual batteries, it was an option. The paint looks very nice. i was thinking about doing mine black in the middle w/a roller.

Installed a second hand Analog MSD 6AL (6420) in my car last night.

cars runs fine. I am not sure if I am noticing any difference from the stock setup with the HEI ignition.

I'll check my mpg this week and see if it helps any...
