Sweet very nice I like it a lot and the grill. I used to own a 41 1 1/2 ton with 2 spd rear...It was black fenders with green body...My son called it Big Green, he cried when I had to sell it....It's listed on stovebolt.com under Randy Cox they listed it as a 42 1 1/2 ton...

Finished the apron. Now bed work.
Thanks. I am looking forward to your build with these older trucks. I like what you have done with your other ones

Re: My 42 Project

Ok so I am working on the bed. I did not have a bed for this truck. Over the last year I picked bed sides. The sides were suppose to be 46 but when I blasted them it turned out that someone welded in the holes and drilled 46 ones. They were not evenly drilled so I welded all the holes. I figure I will lay it out when I get fenders. The bed sides are now painted and I installed them. I got the front bed panel from a 47 (new repop) The bed holes did not line up so I redrilled them. Now its attached. I lined up two cross sills with the holes in the frame, they are from a 54. I got new stainless bed strips for 47 but there are no holes at the end to hold the front panel up. My corner strips are not attached. How do I hold the front panel up?

I actually have a 41-46 bed on its side in the back yard, I can snap a picture of the front panel angle in the morning.

Re: My 42 Project

ok I think I figured this out for you. I have done a couple 47-66 trucks so I know the bed strips for those have a "double hole" at the front of the strips, the very front one goes to the front bed panel and the one just a couple inches back gets the washer on the bottom and holds just the wood.

but looking at the 3 38-46 beds I have in the back yard, one has original wood, and I can see that the strips are like yours, only one hole at the very front. there are bolts through the WOOD only that go through to the front panel lip, as seen here:
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...pserl4qaq7.jpg

you can see that the bolts for the front panel are in the center of the boards, not in the strips. I am pretty sure this is original wood in this one bed and the other beds dont have any wood but the front panel bolts are in the same spot.

I took another picture from the top side but this bed had a sheet of metal on top of the wood and there is a welded angle blocking your view of the bolts, but you can see the split in one board caused by the bolt.

Re: My 42 Project

Thanks Joedoh. These are great pics. My 53 had the double holes at the end. I almost got those but they are longer. My strips are 76 7/8. Based on your pics and not wanting bolts in the middle of the boards, I have decided to cut a 1 1/2 x4 oak board 48 long and install it under the front panel. I can counter sink some screws into the top thru the holes in the front panel. That will secure the front panel and I wont have to drill holes in my polished stainless. It doesn't need to be mounted to the frame because I have a cross member an inch away. Once I put the through bolts into the frame it want go anywhere.
I will post pics after I get the piece made.

This what you will see under the bed. Should also cover more of it with the frame covers

Re: My 42 Project

So for those who are following along and are getting confused about how many trucks are in this build, its one. I have another one I will build after this one. I was getting confused as I read thru my own pages. This green 42 is currently on the stock frame with a 55 rear axle and a stock front axle with disc brakes. The booster is under the floor. It has a small block v8 and a 700r4. Stock steering and 12 volt. The bed is stock half ton and eventually I will find some steel fenders for it. The 69 frame is under another cab just resting until I get around to that build, on a different thread. Still liking what Joedoh is doing with the s10 build. I may go that way when I am done with this one.

Out for a ride. Heater defroster hooked up. Running boards bolted. Ordered fiberglass from chev of the 40s . They were not effected by superiors fire

Re: My 42 Project

fiberglass in CA is where I can see it make sense, nice mild weather. I have had fiberglass parts here in kansas and in the winter it got cold enough that the fiberglass parts just shatter with even a small bump, no give at all.

I have 2.5 sets of steel fenders for my 3 cabs, need one more drivers side. one has a watermelon sized hole in it and one pair is 37-38, but I still count myself lucky.

looks really good rolling aorund!
