I've got a few that I just need to pull from my dad's camera...and I'm going to have a LOT more after that... :)

Since my 2002 F**d truck(20,000 miles) just losts its transmission, My 68 burb is going to step up to front line service for a while anyway. It will transport me back and forth between Maine and Conneticut for the next couple weeks.
The longhorn is a lot prettier, but it gets 13-14, while the burb gets 18-19 mpg, and cruises much better on the highway. |
How are you getting that kind of milleage? What is the setup on it? My 70 C10 with 350, headers, duals, edelbrock 1406 (running one stage leaner than stock), with 3.54 gears gets 11 no matter what I do. Pulling or just driving around about the same.
|
lol, my 283 gets 8 mpg, i should get a saw and take out the lead in my foot :(
|
Just got back to work from Maine. I drove 263 miles, and used 14.4 gallons. It took a whisker under 5 hours, so while my highway speeds were 65 to 70, my average speed (including toll booths, construction, etc, was fifty-somthing miles per hour.
By my math, that is 18.2 mpg. I have a 350 with a q-jet, sm465 4 speed, and 3.08 rear gears, and 31" tires on the rear, 29" tires on the front. Tire pressure in the rear tires was 50 psi, front 40. I have a fairly high compression ratio, and that is key to good mileage, as is a healthy HEI, and synthetic oil. By comparison, my 2002 F**d f250 (with a bad transmission btw, with a powerstroke diesel, gets between 17 and 19 mpg. 35 years, zero progress. |

XXL now that is a load in a truck.. ive handled some of those new rack servers and they fit more in them and they weigh more than ones thinks.
|
jku72, thats some nice milage, i need to switch to 3.08s sometime in my truck, but in the mean time if i run 55-60 i get 20-22. Which im very happy with and agree that there hasnt been much progress as there should be in that area. The progress has been made it just isnt public, and ive modified my truck some to compensate, thats why i get the milage i do.

Sorry, I never got pics of mine during the move...suffice to say between it and the trailer, it was the first time I've really consistently had to work the brakes hard to get it slowed down! :D
|
Sorry, no pictures, but...
In 26 years, my 72 K20 has carried quite a lot, including countless cords of wood (usually full cords, often green hardwood - needed sideboards), 2 sod pallets (ouch!), drywall, and the one time I weighed it, topsoil. All it could hold, piled high in the center. Certified scales showed 11,300#, and after shovelling it out, 5,300#. A cool 3 tons. Sure steered & braked funny!
Even at that, some of you guys have had loads in your half-tons that sound a lot scarier! My truck has overloads, 8PR tires, and 4.10 gears, so it's a bit better for heavy stuff. |

Her is mine. Going from Florida to Milwaukee.

Guys, as far as the air bags. The suspension is not your only limiting factor, brakes are an issue too. Notice how 3/4 ton trucks don't just have a beefier suspension, they have beefier axles and beefier brakes.
|
when im finished with my truck... its gonna be lowered but have an air assist kit so it will be functional as a work truck... just pump up the psi and and put more weight in there.... let the air out to lower it back down... www.classicperform.com

Here is my 72’ beater truck working. My 68’ GMC is the hot rod garage queen, the 78 K10 is the off-roadster, the new 01’ Silverado is the tow rig so the 72’ gets stuck doing all the dirty work.

You’re right those are some biggens on that there ole beater. :D I bought this 72’ at an estate sale for $300 bucks last January along with the 4 flat dry rotted tires mounted on split rims no less. I had just bought a new set of 35” Superswampers and new wheels for my 78’ K10 so I put my old 33’ on 15-inch wheels on the 72’. The 33’s would not fit on the front of the truck so I traded 2 of the 33’s for 2 31’s at some little fly by night tire shop on the bad side of town. I also had to do a little grinding on the calipers and backing plates for the 15-inch wheels to fit. Including the swapped in HEI, tune up, new seat cover, and belts and hoses I have just a tad over $500 into this truck. Not too bad for a reliable old beater truck…even if it does have too big of tires. |

RICER? RICER!? lowered trucks arent ricers, if you got a good set of bags you can haul a TON of crap if you dont have all your stuff in the bed =)
|
No pics, but lets see now, I bought an 84 1/2 ton Burb 7yrs ago w/32,000 on it w/350 & 700R4. Now it has close to 200,000 on it, & of those mile at least 100,000 or more miles of that was pulling a fully loaded 6,000 or 8,000 lbs trailor behind it. Anyone that really knows me, knows I dont use my truck, I ABUSE IT ! ! ! ! joe

Here is a shot of my '70 3/4 ton loaded up for the first of several trips to the concrete recycler. The truck weighs 5000 lbs. empty. I think I remember one weighing had the scales at 10,000 or so.
It rides so much smoother with a few thousand pounds in the bed. Pete |
