Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Thanks for the kind words 72blueshark...
Well I tied up all the loose ends on sketchy and took it for a cruise tonight. Had some issues with the serpentine set up...fan and power steering pump...I really wanted to use it. Perhaps I can put it back on at a later date,so for now it has the v belt stuff on it. Running good. Next thing to fix is a trans leak. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
You do realize the serpentine set-up takes a "reverse flow" water pump?
So changing to standard v-belts will require a waterpump change also. Just checking. |

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Glad to see you had good luck with the process.
Can you post up some more details on what you had to go through/what forms you had to fill out to get it done without a lawyer? I am also curious on how detailed the inspection is for the assembled vehicle VIN. I would assume that everything would have to be working including wipers, squirters, lights, etc. I am still sandbagging on going through the process with mine. I am slowly getting everything working. |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I downloaded all the forms I needed off the net.(Quiet Title Packet) Except one, I got that one from a Kansas Trooper. There was no other inspection,...just vin numbers. There are only two places in Ks. to get a vin and title assigned. Topeka and Olathe... Olathe has a very cool trooper who helped me tons. He is by the book and knows his stuff/job.
I am going to be at the Midwet All Truck Nations next weekend. I can bring copies everything that I used to file. At first I was very reluctant to attempt this and was really against using a lawyer for this. It would have cost me more than $1200 and some wanted more than $1400 I am so glad I went this route. Re: Project Sketchy Deal
One other thing I would say is, don't go anywhere but Olathe to do the inspection.

I still want to drop it a bit.. Worried about front end alignment. Although a couple years ago I cut the front springs on the ochre truck and it drives straight as an arrow. I am still amazed. The tires have normal wear too. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
I installed the rear springs last night. I think I only got a 3" drop.now I have to get the front lowered. Pictures later.

The same trooper put my new vin plate on the door jamb below the original spot. It was a crazy deal but I wanted to do tag it without any worries. I definitely have piece of mind. Was it worth all the hassle? I haven't thought of it that way. I am however growing fonder of it each day that I have worked on it. Thanks for the kind words..it's working well so far. I think God is teaching me to be patient. Maybe.;) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Actually as I think more about it. The vin tag that was removed by the trooper, did not have rose bud rivets. They were round and flat...very common type.. It was probably what clued the trooper in that something was amiss.

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Oh now I understand, so the orginial rose rivets were switched with round head rivets. So the title you have matches the vin tag that the trooper removed from the door jamb? and then they punched you a new one and put it back on the door? doesn't the new vin tag the trooper put on the jamb match the title as well? This is the oddest story I have heard in my life but thanks for posting it sure is a wake up call as to what to look for before buying any vehicle! Things will work out in your favor. God Bless....

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Oh and by the way that is a hella nice truck you have there!

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
After I got all the legal stuff worked out and was issued a new vin plate I the went to the courthouse with all the paperwork and registered the truck and from there the state of Kansas will issue me a new title with the new assigned vin number on the title.I still have not received the new title in the mail. I ain't sweatin it though.

Looks good! A 2" block in the back should get you down where you want to be.

Re: Project Sketchy Deal
Thanks again everyone!
Hey Rob, I've got what I think are 3" cpp lowering springs( forgot who I bought them from) and 1.5" blocks. I'm a little concerned about the scrub line. Think I might swap springs with the ochre 72. Posted via Mobile Device |
