Jim, that was my intention. I don't have my motors yet so I can't drill the mounting holes.
What did you cut the big round hole with, a hole saw?

Mark ,,I used a hole saw

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

How do you remove the spring from the regulator?

bonnieclyde100 01-21-2014 07:06 PM

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

put the regulator in the up position and pry it off carefully. it might help to put a towel over it while prying off.

I finished mine a while back but just got around to installing them now that the doors are painted. They work great the window goes up nice and quick. No issues at all.
Thanks so so much for this great tip. Glad I found it on YouTube and then the pattern on the forum.
thanks again

I was messing around with one of these power regulators out of an Astro van, be careful of those springs. I cut the heck out of my hand when it caused the arms to scissor on me .... sorry no pics =)

So, has anyone adapted a factory power window harness for control of the passenger window as well as the driver side from the driver's door switch?
I know there are aftermarket kits for these, but trying to keep with the "On the Cheap" Theme here.....any ideas?
Thanks!
Ben:metal:

Ben, that is my plan. I got a harness and switches from a square body from Krazy Ray on the parts board and I am going to use them. If you do the same, make sure you get motors that have the connector facing the rear of the vehicle, not the side. Otherwise you will have to modify the plastic end connector on the harness to fit the motor. I got the wrong motor the first time, but it was only $17 so no big deal. Still cheaper than the alternative.

Thanks for the update, I'm working on a window switch that will allow you to keep the factory window crank in the same hole it was originally (like the aftermarket version currently available, but on the cheap, keeping with your theme  ) I am using the broken door actuators from a set of doors I bought and using some micro switches, I'm attaching a few pics, but it's a work in progress, but hopefully it will give you all some inspiration to make a set and save some big money all the while looking "Stealthy"
Here are a few pics:

Great idea here. Thanks for reviving the thread or I'd have never seen it :)
This should help on the wiring ideas:

just did my other one figured out how to get the guide to work a little better in the pic below you will see that if you cut the guide out like below you can put it in the vise and flatten it a little only needs to be flattened the thickness of the metal then it can be put over the gear and tacked in place.. also i welded studs to the metal instead of grinding the bolts
btw i really love this mod

I haven't had time to try (nor does it look like I will) this mod. I was thinking when I try it about using this switch and somehow affixing a stock handle to it instead of the switch handle that's there. I don't have anything to mock up with, so there may be clearance issues, etc. However, it seems a possible way to keep the stock look.

Finally did this mod. Followed all instructions. Followed video on how to make a relay so you don't prematurely burn up the switches. Also got inspiration on the micro switches to keep the stock look. Here's a pic. It works great.

Notice the springs keeping the unit centered. In the picture above.

70STOVEBOLT 07-13-2015 11:33 AM

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

Do you have a schematic for wiring the relay?

Bombero412 07-18-2015 08:55 AM

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

I actually used the schematics from the youtube video IA DC posted above and instead of going to the standard window switch it went to my home made switch. I will post a drawing of that. Check this video.... https://youtu.be/dLKuZeUe6is
