I'm in for when you get back on it. If there is one thing I learned in my build that has now spanned 4+ years is that these builds take a lot longer and cost a lot more than first anticipated but are worth it in the end. Keep plugging away at it, looking good so far.

At this point I am about 15K in Parts ad the bill at the body shop to install the floor, Cab Corners, Rocker Panels plus inner and outer Kick Panels... I probably have about another 15K to go in parts a little more Body Shop Labor...

I'm in that club also, save a little - buy a little :lol: Although I wish my truck was in one piece, I have no regrets waiting to save money to buy parts. Your making great progress in my book.

Playing around in the garage yesterday... I am still waiting on being able to get the suspension parts so I took the Stock cast iron 4-barrel carb and manifold off of the engine along with the Stamped steel valve covers and set on the 3 deuce setup and polished aluminum Valve covers just to see it and get a little inspired...

Thanks Guys... I should be getting the Front Brakes this week for the truck... Just order some Tie Rod Ends, Alignment Shims and steering ram From Rock Auto today... Thanks For the heads up Mike... All that is left that is major is the Trailing arms, pan hard bar, Rear Diff cover... Once I get all that then I will be doing a bit of Test fitting... Once that I get it all together that way I will take it to the frame shop just to make sure it is square before I start paint work on the frame... Lots to do and no money right now to do it with... Heck Mike you are always welcome to come help... LOL... By the way when are you going to start a build thread on yours Mike... Dan

If you end up needing some trailing arms let me know. I will need some time to work on my own mess so it's gonna be on us both to get something done. Les race to a rolling chassis. That will get us motivated. Here is my build thread.

I still need to get the ECE trailing arms, Pan Hard Bar, Differential cover, and fuel tank... Then I have to get the Differential blown apart and have it rebuilt and painted... Along with alot of mods to be done to the Chassis...

Three Deuce looks good! If I may- Don't mess with that steering ram setup. Put a divot in your frame and put on a later model rebuilt PS box (get 'em anywhere). Those rams leak about 10 min. after you put 'em on, and you still have the waaaaaay slow steering ratio. I had one on my old 67, and it made a sieve look watertight. Just my .02.

Yup- and I understand the '81-up boxes are the fastest ratio. You need the 73-up centerlink, I think, to replace the funky 67 part. Here's a good guide-

Alternatively, if you wanna go the handling route, Power Steering Specialties in Springfield, MO can refit your core box with high effort fast ratio guts for approx. $200. They're niiiiiiice, I did one. Also, a 1-ton dually has an 1 1/4" front swaybar that is a bolt-on that keeps 'er flat. Keep an eye on the u-pull yards. Also, there are several options for rear swaybars on the down low. Third Gen Camaros, for one-

Cool! I meant to mention, Yeller's (yellow line in my sig) entire front suspension is built to '75 specs. '70 crossmember, all the rest is '75 except the cpp spindles.

Chip did a great job on my Monte's box.

Glad the info came in handy.

Just read your thread... found it from reading Cash3481's build.
WOW.. you sure have some history with the truck, and thats what makes it worth it in the end.... You can't buy memories/history.
I like where you are taking this truck! nice build.

So question for you: Now that you got the truck back from Chaotic Customs... how do you like their quality of work?
I know there will be alot of repair needed on my wife's panel...and some on my 68. and I am not a welder!
Watching along with everyone else.

I can Say that the work Chaotic did on the truck is pretty good... Some of the welds are a little rough but definitely workable... In doing research before taking the truck to them I found they have some very nice end work... The shop rate I was charged was 50.00 per hour and that was the best rate I found and they didn't milk the hourly rate either... I will have them do some more work on this before I complete the truck... The complaints I have with them are minor... Chris (The Owner) seems to be more interested in going to Car Shows than paying attention to the business, he leaves his son Drew in charge and Drew is not the best at scheduling the work flow... Drew and Chris are great guys and do some great metal fab work...

I will use them again for my projects... If you want to ever scoot over to Winfield you are welcome to come look at the work for yourself and I would welcome a fellow board member...

ordered the last of my Suspension parts today... I ordered the rest of the Front Brakes, Tie Rod Ends, drag link, everything for the front should be here Tuesday... The Rear Trailing Arms should be here Monday and I just ordered the bent Pan Hard Bar and Polished Diff Cover from Early Classic Enterprises...

Man I can tell you the difference between CPP and Early Classics Customer Service is night and day... I can honestly say with the exception from the "good" pricing you can get at CPP there is no reason at all to deal with those people... Every time I have had to call them it is a nightmare... On the other hand Whenever I have called for order or just information Mark and Scott at ECE have been AWESOME!!!!... Also when you call CPP you are put on hold for like EVER!!!... when you call ECE Mark or Scott answer the phone... ECE will have 100% of my business in the future...

This is just my opinion and experience with these two companies and I have spent a couple of grand with both of them over the last year so the playing field is about as even as you can make it...

Now all I need to do before I can start getting this thing going forward is come up with the 800.00 for the Stainless Steel fuel tank from ECE... Then send it to the frame shop to make sure the frame is 100% square... Pull the differential and have it gone through and the Posi setup put in... While it is apart I need to paint the differential housing and Chassis...

Once that is all done then I will assemble all of the kewl parts then start doing some of the final work on the body... I need to get the Vintage Air mocked up in the truck and all the "spare" holes welded up on the cab before the final work can be completed...

Congrats on ordering the remaining suspension parts you need to complete your frame. If your looking for a fuel tank, you should really look into an aluminum tank from Boyd Welding. They are really nice quality and you can even order one powdercoated if you like. You can get the Boyd tank for about half that ECE tank and the Boyd tank is already setup for a in tank fuel pump if you ever decide on going with fuel injection.

Did you ever work out the "spacer" for the upper arm studs? I lost a couple of mine during tear down and had to get more from the junkyard. I've noticed though, that there are two different thicknesses out there though. Also, the C20 uses 9/16 studs VS. the C10 uses 1/2".

Yes I have... I am over to the 1/2" studs and I ordered a bunch of Shims of different thicknesses from Rock Auto... Once the rest of the parts get here I will finish the mockup then frame and start actually building this thing...

Thanks for the info but I like the idea of Stainless steel over aluminum and I really don't think this truck will ever get EFI...

I just read through all the pages. I am so happy that after you got the truck back you decided to keep it instead of tossing it and getting a different one. After all of the changes, short bed, motor/trans, wheels/tires, etc...the soul of the truck will always be that of your dad.

Love the build so far, keep up the good work. I think the truck will be worth far more to you when its done....er, um, driveable, our trucks are never "Done" :lol:

Sweet...all the parts showing up this week, and the memorial weekend to put them on the truck!
