Re: 1961 Crew Max
wow! lots of work! but its coming along.
something I noticed on mine: the rear of the front door gets super close to the rear door hinge when you open it. at one point I had the rear door gap opened up too far ( with a porta power) and it pushed the hinge far enough forward that the front door wouldn't open... it was quite a process to get the pillar in the right spot so that the inner rear of the rear door wouldn't hit the jamb when closing, and the rear of the front door would clear the hinges, and still maintain a decent gap between the 2 doors.... lmk if you need measurements of any of this stuff. |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Chizzler, you are getting a good solid start on the floor! The donor vehicle looks pretty solid.

Quick update. New floor pans are in. Old rockers are cut out and getting ready to put doors back on. New cab mounts are mocked up but not fully welded. Also purchased a lb rolling chassie to be stretched. Also put the duramax wheels on because the other wheels had three different size tires. Thanks CHIZZLER.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Can someone help with moving this thread to the projects section. Thanks

Re: 1961 Crew Max
She has been moved for ya. Nice work on the pans and all.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice work on the floors Chizzler. Where did the panels come from?
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Sheet metal all came from top banana.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice job on the floor/support replacement. It sure looks nice.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Great looking project. Looks like it's too late to suggest using the newer frame/running gear with the firewall and floor mated to the upper parts of the cab and dash from the 61

Re: 1961 Crew Max
That would have been to easy. Plus it will be 2wd and the d-max frame is huge.

Some progress updates. Passenger side rocker replacement went pretty good. Lots of fitting, trimming to make everything fit. Front door was short 3/8" compared to back door. Ground down bottom edge of rear door to make rockers fit for now. Will probably end up replacing bottoms of all doors to make them line up. Also bottom of front pillar replacement pieces do not come with welded nuts for mounting cab supports. Had to weld on backing plates with nuts.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice repair work Chizzler. Looks warm outside there too. Nice.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Wow! Lookin awesome!
That is a lot of rocker to line-up! The gaps look good so far! |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
lookin nice! do you have pics of what you did for the center of the inner rocker?
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Center section of the inside rocker is not in. Im going to try and add a cab mount at each b-pillar. I did the bottom repair the same as you did with the intent of using the welded on nuts to align a new cab mount. waiting on parts.

did yours have a front seat in it when you got it?
I am trying to figure out what it was backed with. mine has screw holes around the perimeter and the screws , but nothing else... I am wondering if it was the same material as the headliner, or a metal panel...? in this old pic it is hard to tell... also did yours have a rear seat, and did it appear to just be a front with solid supports like mine has? I am checking the seats for fit, and the seats seem real close together... (last photo is the only pic I have of this style with the seats in it) |

My seats look like the bottom 3 pics you posted. My front seat still has some screws on the back side but nothing else. Rear seat appears to be a front seat with a sold base.
