After I realized it was going to be necessary to cut out my floor to make room for the bigger transmission now poking through, I bought a new aftermarket high hump cover. I laid it on the floorboard and marked the outer line and holes to drill, then trimmed the excess away. I bought one of these nutsert tools so I could bolt it down. This thing is very handy...

Sorry for so much of this being out of order. The farther I get into this I keep finding stuff I overlooked and should have showed earlier... O well. Back after I finalized where the exhaust pipes would be routed I wanted to add some V band clamps and proper hangers to the system.

I had mentioned before the need to add a power steering pump to the motor. Over the past couple of years I have watched more and more companies bring parts to the aftermarket for the GenV LT. During that time I was trying to look at all of the options, and even considered going with an electric system like what is used on the Saturn Vue. I landed on the kit from Kwik Performance, mainly because I was very comfortable talking with Wayne, one of the owners, and felt like the guy would be there to help me when (not if) I had questions. Plus, I would rather support smaller businesses than large conglomerates. Turns out it looks to be a quality kit, and the help was there when I needed it.

A few more shots of the progress. I bet it took 15 small coats of filler to get it this flat, and it’ll take another 5 before it’s ready for high build. The last pic the primer was still wet.

I usually keep my eyes out for C10 deals on Craigslist just in case. On a Sunday night I checked and found a complete short bed for $900. about 50 miles away. Since it was late I just sent an email, saying I wanted to buy it and I’d call him in the morning at 9. When I called him at 9 I was already near his house with money in hand. I figured it’d be an easy resell if I end up not using it. It didn’t hurt that it was the colors that I hope to paint my truck....

The oak tree in the front of my garage is the easiest way to drop the cab back on the chassis.... plus it makes a cool picture!

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure in all of these pics the truck is aired out. Meaning it won't ride at that height. I like it where it's at also which means I probably should raise the bed floor a few inches like gringoloco did in the rear, and cut pockets in the lower control arms up front. On the other hand, I'd really like to drive this thing instead of wrench on it for ever.

Looking good, you just saved 2 weeks or more getting the bed, smokin hot deal too....Nice shoe horn fit with the motor and trans...Don't forget your your 3 point seat belts.

$900 for a complete shortbed in that shape is a steal. Is it OEM or repro steel?

Thank you! That’s what I thought. Yes, 3 point belts to come. I remember seeing a board member who’s sold sets of belts. Any recommendations?

Thanks man. It’s OEM steel, but not a true needle in the haystack... It was once a longbed. The handle on the gate has been removed and the latch system is gone. The gate is held close by a hinge and pin. It works but I’d rather have it factory.

I reused 30 yr old seat belts from a 90's pick up, I have also changed out the bench seat. Went with a pair of seats from a 93 Caprice.

Brian, I always love reading through your build post. Great project and always great pictures. Did you purchase the exhaust hangers locally? There are several of us at or near the same stage in our builds and it sure helps with motivation and questions. Keep up the great work.

Thank you sir, very kind! I bought the hangers from Summit, brand name is Walker. The part number is WLK-3516 They have a 7 inch and a 10 inch version. I think there are even different thicknesses of bar you can get. I got 1/2 inch and wish I got the 3/8. It took a sledge hammer and my vise to bend it. 1/2 inch is probably overkill... Actually broke the removable jaws in my vise while wailing on it.

:lol: I forgot to put the janky cotter pin in that pic. It's definitely hillbilly ghetto! I guess I could class it up with a black one so its not as visible. This one even locks. Movin' on up!
