Re: T-5 swap time
Driveshaft question:
Is a two-piece driveshaft (like the stock one I have) required for a long bed and T5 install? I read somewhere that the center carrier may be in the way when using a one piece. Any advantages to one piece or two piece driveshaft? Should I just have the driveline shop cut and modify my front shaft? |
Re: T-5 swap time
my 60 long bed has a one piece driveshaft with no center bearing or carrier

And, did your center carrier support get in the way? Do you have a support for the tail shaft section? |
Re: T-5 swap time
No clearance issues before the swap and none after. I had my drive shaft cut to 65" but yours may be different. I mounted the t5 like the original 3 speed n with no tail shaft support.

I measured mine and it is 62.5”, but that’s probably because I have a GM 14 bolt rear end. Hopefully getting the driveshaft this week. And, I will need to remove the center support, ran a string from one end to the other and it looks like it will be in the way. |

Also, purchased a 1x2 square tube so I could manufacture a support for the transmission. Hoping it drives awesome! |

Re: T-5 swap time
I was asking because if you are using the stock bell housing that mounts to the crossmember you may not need to fab up a rear tranny support. The original manual transmission 4 0r 3 speed was just bolted up to the bell housing with no rear tranny mount.

Drives good! It was a bit noisy cuz I didn’t have the cover on, but all the gears were smooth, top end much better. Not sure how fast though, no speedometer.
Now I need an e-brake, how do you guys handle this part? Guess I’ve got some search to do. |
