Here was a number near/above/behind/left of the power booster in my truck. It is a 66 with factory power brakes. I only saw this number after getting through the OEM paint in that area, hadn't seen it before and as soon as primer went on it was gone. I think the item used was called autopen or something? It's a bunch of tiny dents that it's drawn with. Haven't been able to line up the number with anything yet, but didn't put a lot of info into it. If i recall when i decoded it, it's a fremont truck.

Here's a nice '63 that I took pictures of at a local car cruise. It was restored by Zwygart's Hot Rodz. I guess the owner's dad bought it new. The hubcaps are obviously the wrong year, but the guy said he had the white painted originals in his garage.

Now that's a sweet little truck! I'm loving the plain jane thing. The right caps would look great on it. I have an NOS set I'd sell if his are junk. Got more pics?

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

Thanks to all that have commented on this thread. It has to be the most interesting thread on this forum. I was lucky enough back in Dec. to purchase a 1965 SWB Big Window Fleetside, with 283, powerglide transmission. I have always thought that GM hit this one out of the park when they hit the market with this truck. What timeless styling. My truck has the original wood bed flooring, it also has the comfort package. Meaning it has the red armrest on the drivers door, and the full foam seat bottom. This set is exactly like the shown here, with the exception of the vinyl which is red. I can still remember my fathers new 66 stepside that he purchased for the farm. I still have the red flare box that was underneath the seat. The flares are long gone but the metal box is in nice condition, and it still has the course red flag materiel inside the box. I don't know as much as most of you on this forum, but it's just a real joy to see the knowledge that you all have. Thanks again

There was a thread awhile back that showed a lot of firewall markings. I took some pics of the markings on my 61 parts truck for reference in case they may be helpful to someone else down the road.

Thanks for posting this truck corvettejim, very inspirational. These are the type of trucks that will get noticed in collector hobby. For a long time there seems to have been a void in the serious correct restorations of pickups, but things have changed in the last few years.

Funny they put so much time and money into that truck to not find the correct hub caps for it....they would have really made that truck pop.

Yea,
Is the paint scheme correct?
Some of these trucks you see online say factory correct restore but some things pop out as hmmmm.

I believe so, minus the white top. The blue and white two tone is commonly seen on the 61 chevys. Looking through some of the literature on the factory literature thread....definitely see some 60's with two tones and white tops....so may be correct for 61 also. Someone with more knowledge on it may chime in.

Mine has a similar number. It too is a '66 Fremont truck with power brakes. It says 760-1 and is "engraved". Looks like a vibrating pen that makes small divots like a center punch and was done before the body was painted. The firewall also has grease pencil writing saying 760. I can only guess it was the job number, but not sure why it would have the "-1" at the end.

Picture from cortcomp's post #126 with his 561-1 below shows the similarities. Both in the exact same spot.

Well this is very original, but modified at the same time. It's a 27,000 mile '65 C80 with a 409. It has been unmolested since being built in Pontiac around March 1965 as a Cab/Chassis and then finished by American LaFrance as a fire engine. There are many things done for fire duty but the key "Chevrolet" things are the fawn firewall, grease pencil writing, original dated Packard spark plug wires.

The air intake arrangement is interesting because it takes cold air from the grill area through ducting up the left wheel well, through the inner fender and into the oil bath air cleaner.

earlier in the thread there is a post on order of paint and the order its laid down. Not sure if its different for suburbans but it looks to me that the interior is painted first, then the lower body color then the white goes last.

In the door jams and the lift gate jams you can see the green over spray on top the fawn paint. I will get a few more pics in the future when I go to check on the mfg of the newer fogging windshield

As far as I've heard, this is where folks are going for the most original looking materials:

ok guys, I have been searching through all these posts to try and find the original blue/green engine paint used on my 66 with a 283. I can find formulas, etc, but is there anyone out there that makes it in a rattle can? I can have it mixed locally easy enough, but sure would be easier if there was something out there I could just buy. ?

any help would be appreciated

65 C20 10-03-2015 01:06 PM

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that 283s were gray and the 327s were the blue/green.
