Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
Thanks everyone for your comments and compliments. So this is when I say I have done nothing this last month or so. But the good news is that I cleaned up my shop, that always gets me excited. I need to get the other frame cut down so i can get the rest of the body in the shop for the winter and start working.
Thanks again. |

Just pop a few pills and get back to it! I know you can! I don't want the next post I read saying something like this "Well guys I didn't get the shop cleaned out enough to bring my truck inside for winter and now it is covered up by all the snow". LOL:lol:

Wow! Its been a while.
Well not a whole lot of stuff going on in the truck department. I have managed to work on a few things. I have started to strip down the frame a little and I also got a cross member from CPP. Sometimes you can get a real good deal from them on their eBay page. I have also decided recently that I am going to try and get the truck going by spring, but it will be far from perfect. The body will not be done and the motor will not be built. But you know sometimes you just want to drive it. That and it is going to take a fair amount more in the funds department than I seem to have. So I figure if I drive it for a few years and try to get parts and then do some little things here and there, I will enjoy it more than I am right now. So I have a list of things that I am going to have to do before then so stay tuned. If I can ever find some time. Here are some pics of recent progress |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
it has been awhile! i forgot about you cutting down the original frame! i like it keep it up mr. chevy!

Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
sounds like a good plan! Always more encouraging when you can drive it.

I know what you mean but at least you aren't at the mercy of someone else for work space.

A Few Things Happening
The first thing is that I actually spent some time on the truck this last weekend. Actually a lot of time grinding and drilling out studs on my frame. I never want to do this again, what a pain. I took out the frame reinforcements that were in the way of where the c-notch kit is going to go. I am going to put some of it back in but I will decide how much when I actually get the notch kit. I also think that I am going to take the rest of the frame apart and paint it all separately and then reassemble it using stainless bolts. I think that will look really nice. Here are some photos of the frame progress. I should also add that I went ahead and installed the dropped cross member too. |

Another update is that I have been looking for a set of headers for the truck. I even had some ceramic coated headers all lined up and the guy came over and we tried to fit them. Well they did fit but the were also to close to the ground for my comfort, especially with the trucks current ride height. So then I was looking on the local classifieds and well found a set I think will work for 50 bucks (a third of the cost of the others). I would say they are a good score. So here are the pics of what they look like. Drivers side then passenger side. Thanks for looking.

So i am going to look at this truck tomorrow. I Think it looks promising.
What do you guys think? 65000 miles. 6 cylinder. Not registered since 1995. |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
Well maybe I'm just talking to myself these days. I guess that's OK. I liked that 65 GMC that I looked at but the bed was beat bad. I can find a good one but its a ways up north and this would be the way i would have to get it in a truck that hasn't really been serviced since 1996. Not to sure about that.
Anyway on to the 67 That's what your all here for right. I just got my c-notch kit from CPP today so i think i am going to try to install this weekend. Maybe.....I mean it is Christmas and all. I will have to see how much my wife will let me get away with. I will throw some pics up the next chance I get thanks for looking. |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
nice progress! looking forward to seeing the frame done!

Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
That GMC looks nice, Utah should good pickings for older trucks I saw quite a few nice ones last time I was out there, my son was stationed at Hill AFB.
I was also looking at a couple of other trucks then I looked around an decided that I better stick to one project at a time, but then my brother does have a farm I could store another one, then I looked at my stash and decided again I needed to build up some more funds. But then ya gott get them whem when you find them Decisions decisions’???? This one has got me thinking real hard http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/cto/2764761559.html |

I guess I should say that I Checked that motor in that 65 GMC and to my dissapointment its not a 292. So I am not sure what to do. The bed is beat bad and its a 3/4 ton. The cab Is really rust free with on big dent in that back under the window. What should I do!!? |

That 67 would be nice I'll have to con the wife out of $500 and hope we get some snow around here or my truck fund will be depleted. |

So I got my C-Notch kit from CPP the other day so I thought that I would try to install it today. I thought that maybe I could install both sides today. Yeah right. After realizing all of the holes that I had to weld up and then drill new ones so that I could get these on the frame, it took quite some time. I decided to try and save the reinforcement plate that was put there by GM so that it would be that much stronger. So I had twice as many cuts and welds to make. I would advise anyone who is going to do a 3/4 ton to just not do it. Well I guess I don't want to go that far but it is a lot more work than I had anticipated, so give it a long think before you do it. Maybe I just did it all wrong and there is an easier way. After it was all said and done I got most of one side done.
Enjoy the Pics |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
some times get excited over a find but when we sit back and figure actual cost it is best ot wait for one in a little better shape. Nice work on the notch, Lucky your wife let you out to work on it Christmas eve, I have to wait till tomorrow But then I don't go back to work till the 3rd so I'm hoppin to get the fenderwells painted and installed

So Here is some good news!
Picked up a power steering set up on the local classifieds for 35 bucks. I am really excited about it but i realized that I may have to do some trimming to get it in there. Do any of you guys have this problem? |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
Did you get the brackets too?

What's it out of?
|
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
I had to trim my core support mount bracket so that the power steering gear box would bolt up. I also had to dimple my frame http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=286089&page=5 post# 121

Still plugging away on the frame.
So since I last posted there has been a few changes. I decided to get rid of the re enforcement plate that I was originally trying to keep. It was just too many plates to bolt together. I did have to cut the one down to make a shim so to say for the brace just behind the rear diff. I also snagged the bracket off my half ton frame so that the track bar would work right as the one on the C20 was different and at a different angle. So enjoy the pics. Oh I should say that I picked up some gently used tires for the back for 80 bucks. I thought it was a good score. |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
[/QUOTEMan I see what you mean. I bet i have to do the same thing as you did. I like your frame. Is that all Porterbuilt stuff? Looks pricey! Looks nice. All my stuff is bottom of the line. I think it will do though.[/QUOTE]
I think you may also have to notch the one bumper bracket but I'm not 100% on that because I'm not that far. Yeah that's Porterbuilt, I have about $1000 in the rear suspension including the trailing arm cross member. It also came with shocks and air bags. What you have will do the job, I just went over board from my original plans:uhmk: Nate |

Yeah I already figured on that too. I had to take mine off to even get it that close. I know how its real easy to go overboard. I would if I could :metal: |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
Here you go http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=power It's kinda hard to see but you can tell the core support bracket is different.
