Yer keepin' her a 6 lug! :metal: Sweet! Let me know when you get it all back together or if you already know how much of a difference it changes your spacing from stock. This is an upgrade i'd love to do in the future, but want to keep my stock wheel spacing. Also what brand or kit did you go with? Sorry for so many questions. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks,

no problem, more questions the better.now assuming you mean the rear disc setup, its just the stock rear end from the 2001 donor truck im using.where im swaping the 67 body onto the newer frame,im using as much stock suspension setup as i can.only for the rear instead of leafs im using bags and the trailing arms i fabbed.but what i can do is get a width measurement of both rear ends so in the future you guys could possibly just do the swap, cut the brackets off the old rear end and weld them on the new style one.then disc in the rear as simple as that

:dohh:Forgot there for a minute you're using the newer chassis! But that's still be some good info on how close the stocker is to the later model rear end. Thanks!

haha.a buddy of mine reminded me that the newer style rear end will be weider then the old.i will get a measurement on sunday

(joey) 05-22-2011 07:53 PM

Re: Project...praise the lowered

from face to face of the newer style rear end is 68 inches.old rear end is 62 1/2 inches.quite a difference. but now everyone knows.

today me and my girl finished stripping all the crud off the rear half of the frame.ground off all the welds from the stuff i cut off, then primed and painted with box liner.turned out perfect.then i got the front suspension (minus the bags) installed and tonight i threw a couple wheels on and dropped her down.its going to lay real nice.should have the rear axle mocked up tomorrow.finally we have some nice driveway working weather.

(joey) 05-22-2011 08:02 PM

Re: Project...praise the lowered

Re: Project...praise the lowered

another good day for the driveway build.today i mocked up the rear end.me and the mrs got the wheel base with in an 1/8th first try.after we got it perfect i got the control arms measured and marked out where im going to build the rear bag mounts/axle pads/and u bolt mounts.after going out for the afternoon i cut up some box sides when i got back.from long box to short box.it wasnt a bad job at all.

Re: Project...praise the lowered

so are you gonna make a bracket that bolts to the axle to hold the link bar? or are you going to weld it to the axle?

FRENCHBLUE72 05-23-2011 07:51 PM

Re: Project...praise the lowered

Looks like you could get away with the u bolts possibly??

(joey) 05-23-2011 07:53 PM

Re: Project...praise the lowered

im going to use some of the stock mounting hardware from the newer truck setup.in the first picture you can see one of the axle pads under the u bolt.its what kept the axle flat on the leaf springs.where the leafs sat on top of the axle i cut it off and im rotating them around to the bottom to sit on top of the arms.in the top left of the same pic you can see some more u bolt mounting brackets.im going to set that on top of the axle and drop the u bolts through a couple of brackets im going to weld to the arms.hard to explain but i will post a pic as soon as i get it done

kev2809 05-23-2011 09:29 PM

Re: Project...praise the lowered

nice. im likeing that setup. are you mounting your bags on the bars behind the axle?

i wonder if i could make something like this myself for my truck that would just bolt on...

Re: Project...praise the lowered

as always thanks for the input.
Kev im sure you could do something like this setup.and the bags are going to mount behind the axle.i made some bag mounts and u bolt mounts today at work.i should have the arms finished tomorrow.i will post a pic as soon as i can.today i did a little more blocking on the dash.about another hour and it should be ready for primer.after fitting up the gauge cluster i discovered i have to re bend the mounts a little.not a big deal.i also snaped a pic of the paddle valve setup and gauges.hides most of the seam where the dash meets the console real nice.

Re: Project...praise the lowered

sorry for not having any updates for those of you following.i have been quite busy with the build and enjoying the summer.so here is where i am now.drivers side box is now one piece, welded together, wheel arch patch in place, body work done including hours and hours of blocking (had some help from the build foreman),epoxy primed and high build primed.brake lines are all built, bent, just need flared.abs heart is cleaned, painted and ready to go.and now in the works is a custom stainless fuel tank to take place of the stocker from the newer donor truck.when i moved the rear axle ahead 4 inches it was hitting the rear of the tank.heres some pics of the build and a couple trucks from a car show i went to yesterday.

67cheby im going to have to get you a number 1 fan t-shirt haha
after blocking and sanding for the past week i managed to do some paint and primer.the dash didnt turn out too bad for combining the newer gauge housing and playing around with a little sheet metal.feels good to spray a little color.

bad ass fab work very nice . will be watching for updates

Re: Project...praise the lowered

yeah guys,it was a big step getting to spray some paint.feels like i actually got somewhere on it.as for the wiring harness, the only wiring im using from the 67 truck is the front headlights connectors and the rear tail light connectors.the rest should be plug it in and turn the key.so today i went over and did some assembly to see how it looks with some of the holes filled.not too shabby.nothing is bolted in place in the pictures so some stuff is a little crooked but in my opinion it looks really good.next will be on to the drivers door and some welding/seam sealing under the cab.
