Sound deadened the floor, inner quarters and roof today. We use a product called VB1X from Cascade Engineering. It goes on purple and turns black when it dries. It really gets rid of the feeling of being in a tin can. After 2.5 Gallons we have no echoes in this truck! :metal:

Been wondering how that spray on stuff works.

Nice work, I'm going to have to look into that sound deadening spray while I have my interior out.

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

The process I follow is to spray all of the floor/inner panels & roof with the spray in VB1X. I then go over the high noise areas with the roll out stuff that conforms with heat.

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Today the fenders, front wheel wells, cowl vent panel and radiator support were painted. I still have a little work to do on the hood before it is painted tomorrow. Front and side doors are installed which makes it look MUCH bigger! I have been working like crazy to get my home garage ready for this beast. Having to downsize the tools & modify the space to get it to fit. I need a bigger garage! I brought in a 1947 Ford COE and a 1959 Chevy Stepside at the shop for the restoration department so this burb HAS TO GO! Day by day it's getting closer! I'm not even thinking about what still has to be done. It's just crossing things off the list so it's moveable at this point.

Is it still holed up, or ya got somethin' going on?

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Other projects have totally gotten in the way. That and my ADD makes it impossible to focus on one thing at a time! Customers cars are no problem. We make a blueprint and follow the path to completion. For me I fall into the trap that I tell all of my customers not to. The "while we are at it" syndrome. My latest hiccup is the motor set up. I have a 396 all bored out and hopped up with a built turbo 400 to handle the horsepower. The more I think about it though the more I want to switch to an LS set up. Maybe I will just flip a coin :-)

Out of curiosity...why? Is it for the nostalgia of it or do you just like the big blocks? Believe me, I was sold on just plopping in this monster but the more vehicles I see with LS conversions the more I sway that way. If I keep the 396 I am at least switching out to a 4L60E. I drove a customers 70 Corvette with a big block & Turbo 400 that we completed the other day. I just wanted at least one more gear. It screamed at me most of the drive :-).

If I switch out to an LS it will be to a 6.0 out of an 06 Vette. I have a buddy that has one with 70k on it. I really like being able to start the thing every time after it has sat for a couple of weeks...or months.

I say all of this but this 396 is sitting here waiting for me just to finish bolting it together and start it up. Procrastination may just get the best of me.

Personally I love the off idle torque of a mild BB as well as the looks. IMO there are few motors that match the visual appeal of a BB Chevy. I do love 427 SOHC Fords, any old school Hemi, Flatheads, and nailhead Buicks. So I guess you could say its a Nostalgia thing. I love the mileage and performance potential of an ls though. Seeing as you already have the 396 it would seal the deal for me. I agree 100% on the OD.

Totally agree with everything you said. The other possibility is one of the EFI carburetors from EZ Fast or Edelbrock. I would be dropping another $1500 to $2000.00 on that though. I'm looking at $4500 for the 6.0 w/tranny. Add the cost for a new re-worked harness & I am roughly at the same price point as my 396. Actually, a bit more for the 396. I don't know. The motor is here so I guess I will just put the darn thing together & change out at a later date if I don't like it.

My son and I went down to the shop this afternoon to try and install the drivers side header. Didnt happen. Its too tight between the head and the frame rail. I was going to just unbolt the motor and lift it up with the cherry picker but I couldnt find the bracket that mounts to the intake manifold to lift the motor. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day!

Just went through your entire build thread and love it. Awesome work! Going to be tagging along.

Just a quick question...Where do you purchase the VB1X by Cascade Engineering?

Thanks!

Well how is life in Oregon now after thanksgiving.

I love this build. I am thinking of one similar but doing a full custom chassis that has a modern ifs similar to a raptor.

Life in Oregon is quite nice!!!

That should be a cool build. When you are at SEMA its the different things that are popular. Use a Raptor motor while your at it!

Alright, am I going to have to come back out there and get this moving again??? Dont feel too bad as with all the cold weather we are having I cant get out into the shop to work on mine either. Lookin for rear seats, do you have any??

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Hey Mike! Unfortunately, I do not have any rear seats laying around. I do have a front bench seat frame but that's about it.

We have been consistently about 3 weeks out on the Collision Repair end of our business so the Suburban was moved over to another wing of our building where it can sit and not get covered in dust. I have acquired quite the pile of cool parts for this thing lately. Ring Brothers hood hinges, Entropy Radiator, Restomod Haymaker AC system with custom vents, Smoothie front bumper and I'm sure I am missing something because the shelves are full of boxes. The motor is being pulled next week to go over to a friends motor shop. He is going to break it in and Dyno it. That should be fun! The plan is to have this completed by summer so we can make the show circuit. SEMA 2016 is also on the list. We already have a 47 Ford COE hot rod pizza truck that is on its way there so we might as well take the Suburban as well. We shall see!!!!!

Update on progress...um pretty much where it was :-( But, I do believe we are back on track. We have been working on some huge projects here at our shop and they are finally to a point where I can possibly work on my own stuff. Bought a new house with a custom 2 level barn/shop so the burb now has a proper home :-) Here are a few pics of one our latest project that had been taking all of our time. Its a 1947 Ford COE custom hot rod pizza truck!!!!! Not too many people can say they helped build one of those! Our portion on this build is body work and paint. The talented Mr Chris Chapman of Chapman Enterprises is doing all of the fab work. It really is a work of art. The other truck that is almost gone is a 1959 Chevy Apache. More pics to come on that one.
