Looks great John. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing it all done. Do you plan on having it road worthy this year?

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Got my DBW accelerator pedal with the Hart_Rod supplied bracket mounted today. I'll have to find a good spot where I can mount the TAC module.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
I got my vintage air main section assembled and installed in the truck.
http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...pshgcvhuzw.jpg http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...pskiqfapjl.jpg Turns out I installed the blower motor (round) cap on backwards... Didn't notice until I was looking at hardware assembly on the big flat cover. Painted and caulked so its too late now. I used a stainless button head screw on it too which now I wish I didn't (since everything else is black). I'll have to use some black touch up paint on it. I eliminated all the self-tapping screws on the flat cover and replaced them with flat black button head 1/2-20 bolts. Painted the two 1/2-20 bolts that support the unit inside to tone them down a bit. The hardware vintage air supplies just looks cheap. My firewall is completely full of holes not from original equipment/harnesses that are no longer there. Its going to have to wait to get cleaned up and smoothed properly for another time. I hate to think of the can of worms I will open up if I start spiffing it up now. The dang cab will probably come off the frame and I'll get sucked into doing a full frame off. http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps6pz7diuf.jpg |

Looks great John, with the necessary working liquid the install went smoothly  :mm:

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Didn't want to turn on the heat in the garage for just a little bit of work so brought some stuff inside. Converted my control panel over to the vintage air controls. Went OK but I hope it will be more durable than it looks.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Painless makes nice relay kits for stuff like that if you don't want to build your own. Something like this will make it pretty easy. This way you can have tuner still keep AC rpm adjustment on and things like that so it's drives nice and idles nice with AC on and also will have the high rpm shut off feature to protect your compressor.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
You can have your ecm reflashed for fan controls. Mine was also a mechanical fan with clutch and I converted to 2 electric fans controlled by ecm .

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
I talked with Lt1.com about ac request also. I was told on dbw setup ac request doesn't need to be setup only dbc need that. My neighbor has dbw with no ac request.

Yes my neighbor has it setup independent from the pcm for ac fan control.

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Not much progress on the build lately- mostly waiting for parts to come in. A few delays as my engine gets bumped at the shop for professional race team customers.
Block is nearly finished and ready to go. It got the works- it was hot tanked a few times to clean out the dexcool mess. Magnafluxed, sonic tested, bored and finish honed to piston size, align bored mains, cam journals align honed. Still need the front machined to fit the cam chain tensioner since they didn't come on truck engines (at least not on this LQ4). We're using all ARP fasteners. http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psclcpoc9d.jpg http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psyjrm07sm.jpg http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psnaqadvrx.jpg |
Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
Rotating assembly is forged Mahle pistons, forged callies crank and compstar rods. The short block is being set up to hold 1,000 hp all day long. Overkill for sure but will last forever pushing the planned 600 at the flywheel.

Then we're cc'ing the pistons so we can tell Advanced Induction what to finish mill the heads to. Then we'll check our valve clearance and get a cam grind figured out with comp cams. Should be around .640ish for lift. None of this is happening fast but it should be worth the wait when its done. |
Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
I spent a few hours at the engine shop yesterday.
The crank got temporarily installed to cc the pistons. We were able to let the cylinder head shop know how much we wanted milled off to finish the heads to get our target static CR. http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psqqa7nzni.jpg The reluctor wheel got installed (still needs to be welded on). http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...pso0ax7h4j.jpg http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psvteeimhn.jpg And I spent some time doing my rocker arm trunion upgrade (eliminates the factory needle bearings). http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...pszz13kvks.jpg Before I left I also hung out a while and watched Rick do a balance on a rotating assembly. I knew the theory of it but haven't watched it being done before. http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psvdfmmhye.jpg http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psqwrdwkcr.jpg http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/y...psgy7y5exk.jpg |

Re: 1970 C10 LWB "Blu"
My crank/rotating assembly got done this afternoon. My guy got it dialed in within 2 grams (1%, which is standard for most machine shops, would have been 17 grams). I'm going to run an ATI dampener as well so this thing ought to be smooooth.....
