Went tonight and scored a parts sub. Glass is in great shape, mine is scratched, has deluxe interior, rear ac has the vent bezels that mine is missing.

Thanks! Would be a cool day trip and I would like to come up. A buddy is coming down from WI that day and we are going pull the LS from a Firebird he bought for his 65 Pontiac wagon over in Nathan's shop. Actually we will probably slow Nathan down so we will stand there looking engaged yet out of the way. Then he wants to check out my shop since he hasn't been there. Should be a fun day.

Was a great day, spent the day with my son ( 8 ) and my dad. We kicked off the morning picking up my parts burb... It went really smooth.... I was afraid it would not, but it worked out.
Lucky for us the PO had a few large wood blocks. We cribbed it up and used a long wooden plank he had to raise it up high enough to get the trailer under it. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...pswipdo7jr.jpg We then used his cherry picker and ran a chain across the front into the inner fender mounting holes. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps3u886ijy.jpg at that point we where able to back the trailer under it. I think we had to lift it just a little bit more right after this photo. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psaunspjsz.jpg The entrance into his back yard where the suburban was on blocks was only 107" wide.... my trailer is 102" wide..... so it was a SNUG fit! http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psoqcsvffk.jpg I then had an appointment to meet up with a member here to buy some AC parts. My crew and I loaded them all in the 72 for a drive down to Champaign, IL. We got out of the subdivision and out on the main road and the old sub was just wagging its rear end from the side winds.... so I pull over and didnt see anything on the Drivers side... it was swaying bad enough the tires where hitting the inner fender wells.. my only thought was it must be the pan hard bar! it was... http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ps798lindb.jpg Got it up on the lift for a closer look... it was already cracked. I drove it last week one evening and when I was leaving town I kicked it down fairly hard and I heard a pop but it sounded like maybe a rock in the road so I had not given it much tought. It wasn't windy so it never really swayed much. That was some creative lifting getting the body loaded! The panhard bar looks like it had been partially broken for some time based on the bit of rust at the top of the break. Glad there was no damage!

The panhard bar was for sure cracked for some time, like you said based on the rust. The rest I seriously put the blame on the added torque of the LS and the lame 3.07 rear gear. That would put a ton of stress on things. I can see a lot of suspension upgrades this next spring. |

Was able to get a few things done in the garage over weekend!

Not sure I have mention it, but I have had a chronic oil leak at the very rear of the LS since I put it in. It made it through power tour and right after started leaving a drip or two, eventually getting bad enough it was pooling oil.
Then the panhard bar broke... and it sat all winter. I recently ordered an adjustable panhard bar from GEARBOXGARAGE here on the site, a great looking piece for the money. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=550494 I also picked up a pair of energy suspension trailing arm bushings to firm up the rear movement that the worn out bushings may be allowing. Finally, I pulled the trigger on a Yank 3200 Stall. Should be in next week Last night I finally had a chance to drop the trans and exhaust out of the way. I spotted what I feel is the cause of my leak. The long bolts in the rear of the pan are seeping oil down the threads and shaft of the bolt. This area of the rear cover shouldn't have oil, so either its a bad casting or the machinest drilled the holes to deep and now it see's oil pressure...... I feel a thread sealer will keep this from leaking from here on out. The pan gasket is dry at the rear, its only moist from oil around these bolts and forward as I didnt have a cover over the flexplate :D. While I have the exhaust down, I plan to cut the trailing arm cross member and re-route the exhaust through that area to keep it from hanging below the frame. I love to do that type of work, so looking forward to this part to! First update in a while, as the kids sports allow, I'll work on the Sub. |

Wow took this apart in May, and STILL have not gotten back to it. But we have been enjoying a bunch of 10U baseball and Tee Ball with the kiddos!
I have time slotted for next weekend to spend time with my burban, I need it off the lift, I have a slug of vehicles to change oil in.... |

honestly, 3" is overkill, unless of course you were going to go single. a good 2.5" dual setup with some ultraflows/maxflows/or pick your flavor, straight through muffler will do the job.

Woke up early saturday morning. Weather calling for super hot conditions, mid 90's for temps but nearly 100% humidity, it was swampy... Real feel was like 110*
So up and at it at 5:30 am, still sweat like crazy and drank 3 gatorades in the 4 hours I was working. I was able to get the drive shaft back on and the exhaust put back on for now. Sealed up the trans pan, swapped out the ARP pan bolts. At this point it was 7:30 and I felt it was to early to start it with no mufflers... I found other things to tinker with, and about 8:30 I fired it up! Love open exhaust and cam lol It moved out of the shed and back. The goal for the weekend was to make it mobile again. I have a few vehicles needing oil changes and tires rotated. In the next couple of months I'm planning to take it to have the exhaust done, love to do it my self but just no time. I hope to drive it regularly again after labor day time frame. |

Glad the Burb is mobile again. Sure makes it easier to get to other projects.
Mine is mobile and hasn't gone very far this year...time is flying by. Brad, don't recall ...what did you do for a pan hard bar? |

FINALLY its back on the road again. Worked last couple of weekends wrapping up the exhaust work. Its done, for now. I want to swap out to an aftermarket cross member for the Trailing arms, that has exhaust openings vs hacking mine. When I do that I will redo the exhaust again to hide it from side view.

For the record, its VERY loud.... my 17 year old self would be in love, but my 36 year old self is trying to raise a family and get by in life with out a disturbing the peace ticket :)

Side note: 15" Indy 500's better hold on to those! Used to be my go-to RWL tire. Now I back to using Cooper Cobra's. |
