Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

I am going to be swapping a Dana 60 front into my truck next month and I will be swapping to the 1ton Hydro boost unit and Brake master cylinder.
I have a hydro setup already but it covers the lighter gvw.
Has anyone run into problems swapping these?

I don't anticipate running into problems if I swap both the Hydro unit and master.

I don't know about the swap, but that down hill pic into the valley? Wow.

Looks like I have a JD7 brake system for my Burb.

I am going to get the matching pair for the same yr V3500 and go with it.
The part #'s are different between the 2 hydros and master cylinder.
Is there such a thing as JD8?

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the "JD8" might refer to the larger brakes that were available on some 1-tons. I'll have to check the RPO sticker on my K30 when I get home. I do know that the JD7 brakes on my '86 C20 Suburban (13x2.5" rear drums) are different than the brakes on my '86 K30 Crew Cab (13x3.5" rear drums). I haven't gotten the front end apart to see if the rotor size or caliper are different yet. I'm running the JD7 hydroboost with a master cylinder from an early 2000s 8-lug Chevy van, and have found that to be a really good combo. I went with the van master cylinder, because it had a reservoir about twice as large as the normal plastic squarebody master cylinder, and it was cheap in the salvage yard I was crawling through.

I'm planning to swap the larger rear drums over to the 14 bolt that is already under my C20 Suburban when I do the 4x4 frame swap. I'll swap over the front brakes also if they're beefier, or maybe do the '09-up Ram 3500 front disc swap on the Dana 60 while I'm at it. Still looking into whether or not that will fit into my 17" H2 rims.

There is a member here that goes by SCOTI. He has a crew cab and I remember reading some good info from him once about the HD brakes. Might search posts from him related to brakes or shoot him a PM.

The JD7 brakes are what I run on my Blazer. They're a bolt on for the half ton if you have the right year banjo bolts. Easy fix if you don't. The one ton brakes are a totally different animal. Not sure what all you have to change to make those work.

Well it appears that I was wrong about the 4l80e not needing a controller.
I got 2 options.
One is spending a few hundred $ and buy a controller, or use the harness and computer from the 91 parts truck.

I am going to keep driving it as is and do some more research on the swap.

so as far as the brakes are concerned.

I went though the rear brakes, readjusted everything, bled them a bunch more times and got the brakes working good again.
After a few wks of driving, the rears are slowly starting to grab a bit more every time driven. They now are locking up occasionally.

Looks like I will be back in the system again. I wonder if I got the adjusters in backward.

I had to put off my trip north to pick up the 60 until the end of this month. I picked up a matching master cylinder and hydroboost unit for a 87 K30 with a 6.2. I will swap them and a new power steering pump after the 60 goes in.

I need to try to keep up here.

I have been just busy with life. I just got back from a trip to Southern oregon.

I have family and friends in the area and I was up there visiting a brother in law that was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. While I was up there I picked up another piece of the puzzle.

A month ago I picked up these tsl's and mounted them on some stock steelies. The dilemma now is what color to paint them.

That last pic inspired another thing to add to the list.

A sunvisor. But not a re -pop. I want the rounded edge version and they are proving difficult to find and $$$.

I found the one I wanted but missed out on it. After finding out how difficult they are to find, I had to jump on the next one that came up.

I hope to go pick it up next month.
Here is a pic of the style I want.

Here is the actual one.

It came off a similar colored burb. I hope it's in good shape.

Which leads me to this.

Boom!

A trailer that can fit my burbs!

My father in-law was selling it so I jumped on it too.

I feel like I hit the lotto, but it's all hard work as payments.

It’s been a long yr.

I’ve been working on a friends truck that passed away. It’s a 75 k10 with 1 tons under it.

I picked up this 84 c30 with a 6.2/400 combo, in the hopes of building a tow rig.

I also got this Badass Buckstop Bumper!

Lots of cool stuff going on in this thread. Funny I saw the "visor" in the pic too and it looked pretty nice.
