Here’s a pic of the rivets and the setting tool. These hold the swivel on the frame of the glass to the main outer frame. This is a solid flush fit aircraft style rivet. They sell the tips or attachments to run the air hammer.

I started disassembling the vent windows, I removed the handle by just pushing out the pin then I drilled out the frame rivet. The glass and frame are in good shape just need a good clean up.

I found it easier to remove the 2 rivets that hold the hinge to the frame. Then you can just use 2 regular rivets to put it back together.

Sneek peek on the dash and gauges. I had a really hard time deciding on the gauges and dash. I decided to go with the classic original look minus the ulpostery on the ceiling and cab columns, everything will be exposed painted.

I have herd of this method but I think it’s easier to sand and paint, paint won’t shrink and crack at the hinge joint? Just my thought I would imagine it would.

Hey do you paint for a living? I'm looking for someone to paint my 77 properly...I'm in the 805 also.

Nice progress on everything Alex! I like the new gauges too! :metal:

Where did you buy those rivets for your vent windows? I found the replacement ones I
bought were too small and too long.
I made my own Here

Thanks, now that you mentioned the fit I need to confirm they will fit. I got the rivets and tool from eBay American classic trucks. And I also bought a kit with all the rivets, tool and screws for vent window from LMC. I haven’t received the LMC package but I did get the ebay 1. I will confirm and post findings. I got the LMC kit because I needed the screws and the rivets that hold the inner window seal. I also have some aluminum 1/8x1/8 regular rivets just in case I find it difficult to set the other ones on the inner seal.

Looks awesome great work on the rivets, did u replace the chrome handle? I got some new handles with the lock button there nice but I kinda don’t dig that the outside button is painted black not chrome.

So I managed to strip and pint the frames on the vent windows, I used a small orbital with 180 and a softer wire wheel, brown and red scotch brite's. Over all he frames where in excellent shape the small glass frame had a few rust deposits in the flat area where water would accumulate. I cleaned them with solvent paint prep the used a good direct to metal primer and final paint coat of PCL flat black.

Sorry Alex for the late reply. My current job has taken away from my forum time. I used to spend the first half hour of every work day catching up on here.

Anyway, I bought new old stock chrome handles to put on my vent windows. However, they were in the wrong box or seller had the wrong part number(not sure). They wouldn't fit the shafts on the vent.... This was like 4 years ago. I ended up just using the ugly pitted ones. It's still on my list of small items to fix.

Yea keeping with the build threads can be time consuming. So the LMC and the ebay window hinge rivets look identical. The fit is good I havnt installed them but they should work.

So the blocking has been extensive some areas needed a bit more attention than I anticipated, but everything is straight and panel gaps and alignment are good.

A few questions... are you painting the interior/ dash hull? Will you run no side mirrors or will you drill the holes for those later? Why didn't you paint all the parts separately so you could paint the bed section behind the cab, as well as the underside of the cab and underside of bed?

Yes painting all the interior it will be exposed no upholstery other than dash and carpet. The side mirror holes are there Probly not visible in the pics.
This was the final blocking stage so all the front clip and bed needed to be on to block and transition the crease lines and match the panel alignment. The bed was in because it already had primer behind can and bed. As for the bottom of cab and bed it was painted silver with POR 15. After this the truck will be disassembled and painted seperatly. After fire wall is painted I will drop engine in the hang the front clip and enclose the engine, so I don’t risk any damage dropping the engine in over with front clip on. As far as under the wheel wells and front tubs they will be flat black.
