I got the steering box at NAPA.. I am very happy I decided to change it, it is like a different truck, the steering fells so much tighter... The weekend was great.. Friday afternoon I went by and showed my Dad the truck and visted with him for a while, and Saturday all the Kids (except 1) and some of the Grandkids came and stayed with us at the lake... we had a great time... I need to come out and see you soon.. Let me know if you are going to be out in the shop any this week.. |

Thanks for checking out my thread. It is rather lengthy with a bunch of filler. I did manage to catch the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour in Concord at the Z Max drag way. I ran her 5 times with great success unfortunately they weren't giving out time slips. I did manage to knock down a s/c Dodge Challenger, a new ZR1 Corvette, 66 nova sbc, and a 67 Nova 502 bbc. The last pass was against the 67 when my fuel pump decided it didn't like being connected to the fuel line inside the tank!!! I coasted from half track and still beat out the Nova by the big end. |

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Wow. That tri-color was killer! Don't know why you messed with it. :smoke:
j/k man! Wow, what a difference. Mike, all you lack is finishing up! |
Re: Crash's 69 K10
Thanks Mike... It was a lot of fun. More importantly, I made some really great new friends along the way...
Steve, I thought about leaving it tri color.. but glad I didn’t now… |
Re: Crash's 69 K10
Ya, everyone has a black truck...but tri-color, nobody has one of those. Ok maybe a good thing. I had to remove your black beauty from my screen saver, just too nice, made me miss my old truck from last year I traded off that was going to do a full paint. It was cool but beautiful paint is just that much better, bet you still won't go muddin though, haha.

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Maybe I didn't notice early on, but what's that front bumper from (on the before)? It looks like a 71-72 bumper, but it looks strange the way it sticks out like that. Is it an aftermarket, heavy duty, bumper or something like that???

Re: Crash's 69 K10
You noticed that too hey Rusty, looks stock but sticks way out.

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Just a quick update, I installed a 2 inch drop steering arm to bring the angle of the draglink closer to level. This helped with the bump steering. The truck steers much better than it originally did with this addition and the late model gear box.
Before: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000150.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000151.jpg After: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270387.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270388.jpg Next addition is a sway bar.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270394.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270395.jpg Sand blasted and painted the set of 67-68 tow hooks that I got here on the board. I did not realize they would not fit my 69 without modification to the front bumper, I guess I will put them for sale or trade for a set of 69-72. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000167.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000168.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000169.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000170.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l.../WP_000171.jpg They really cleaned up nice.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270389.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270390.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/P6270391.jpg I have put over 1700 miles on the truck since I got it going again.. I am really happy with the way it turned out. The LS engine was really a great addition, great power, fuel economy, and drivability. I have noticed I have a very slight vibration from 53 to 62 mph. I really would not have noticed it except it makes the AC control arms rattle a little in that speed range. Above or below, very smooth. I guess I will have the tires re-balanced to see if it helps. Don’t get me wrong, as I have mentioned before it still rides like a SWB 4x4, but.. that is what it is? Still working on getting the AC charged, hopefully that all gets resolved this week. |
Re: Crash's 69 K10
Started looking at badging today..This is what I think I need.. but not sure
http://www.classicparts.com/images/59-044.JPG http://www.classicparts.com/images/59-053.jpg Anyone have any thoughts on this? |
Re: Crash's 69 K10
Not sure on the badges, I tend to take mine off and smooth things out instead, but stock badging as new is a nice addition. Can that truck get any nicer.

What about this? LINK
I'm not sure it's 100% original but it looks the same as my setup with the "CST 10" - "8-350". FYI, I will probably make my own 8-3** badges to corrisponde with my engine displacement. |

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Hey Crash I have a set of "Extreme Bend" hooks if you are interested. They were 1972 specific though. Not sure how correct you want to make the outside look. PM me if you are interested. I can shoot you a pic via phone worse case.
