Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. :metal:

My dad's '99 Silverado has a 5.3/4L60E in it, the tranny's blown up twice. He rebuilt it the first time, and a month later it blew up again. After he rebuilt it the second time, there were no problems, and that was 5 years ago...

It's my understanding that if you just upgrade the sunshell then that will make them stronger. I was contemplating either the 4L60 or the 80, but decided I'd probably go with the 60 since you don't have as much momentum it.

Thanks again!

Good Luck with your build Andy...

Thank you!

I was you also saved me $200...I didn't know that the T-case support column could be machined and reused for the 4L60. Glad I read your thread over again.

I didn't find any detail's on the step bars, what year and model were they manufactured for and did you modify the mount brackets?

Sorry for the late reply. The step bars are made by Aries - "204036-2 Aries". They are designed to fit our trucks with no modifications.

Shop around if you decide to go this route. I found a huge range in the cost of the step bars.

Hope this helps.

The AC is great... But I found myself not using it as much as I thought I would. Something about driving these old trucks with the windows down.. Just feels right to me..:chevy:

They use the exisitng cab bolts and a brace that goes to the frame. You have to drill four 3/8" holes in the bottom of the frame. I am in Houston, but when I get back home I will take a picture of how they are mounted.

Pic’s from the 30th annual Guthrie Car Show last Saturday. I entered my truck in the 50 – 69 truck class. Wow.. There were some really nice vehicles there. Over 150 cars were in the show, and most were really nice.
The winner of my class… Very, very nice..

Looks like a good time. Maybe one of these days we can both go with our trucks...

I was going to try to talk to the owner but he was leaving just as I walked up, I saw it at a local Sonic cruise in two weeks ago:

I agree! I just recently found this thread and have been working my way through it. I did skip to the end and have a look at the finished project. Very nice work Mark. I will be referring to your thread a lot during my build. Larry

Mark I'm curious, after everything you did to rebuild the front end and change out the steering box, did you ever consider cross over steering? Trying to figure out if its worth it or not and just wondering what your opinion of the stock steering setup is
