I love this stuff.I think the innovation used by farmers is the coolest thing. Last resort is store-bought. If it can be made, fixed, adapted they'd make it work. How about that 'seeds per acre' gauge? Cast in iron. These days that would be a sticker. They make all this beef about a proper foundation yet over 100 years ago they build a barn like that off a few big stones and here it stands today. That mortise and tendon made for a true free standing structure.

Glad to hear it. I've been wondering. Had my sister and her family in town from Sante Fe till about an hour ago. Been meaning to shoot you a text to check up. Where ya been? Vacation? We just got back from meandering back roads through the old farmland, over bridges, up to the mountain today.

The critters keep the water aerated and add protein.

Killer you beat all. if you ain't on top of a too-tall ladder, your in a hole in ground.

I'm assuming since your still posting, the sexy water girl let you out of the hole before filling with water.

Did you pee on the electric fence yet?

I love the Crusted Butt area. I was in Aspen at a bed & breakfast chalet one night sipping wine with the snobs (nice snobs) and when we said we were headed over the mountain to Crested Butte that's what they told me Aspenites call it. I guess I'm a Crusted Butte kinda guy more than an Ass-pen type

How about those chrome sculptures throughout town? Are they still there? I have photo prints but nothing on the computertor.

I was in Crested Butte about 18 years ago and since then Crested Butte has been Aspenized,

Us rednecks didn't feel welcome with our fossil fueled toys. Everybody in Crested Butte drove a Prius, rode a bicycle and walked a dog.

Don't get me wrong, I ride a bicycle, but because I want to, not to be seen, and I have a dog so he can bark at intruders and chase squirrels, nor to prove I have culture. RE the Prius. My 4 door, long bed, Duramax didn't fit anywhere.

Taylor Park has my people. RV's and tents parked amongst the sage brush, with a grill outside, and ATV trails right up to the door.

We rode the trail to American Flag mountain to Taylor Park to Tin Cup Pass to St Elmo to Cumberland Pass to Alpine Tunnel and back to South Crested Butte(84 miles) .

St Elmo is touted on the net as being a ghost town but there was wall to wall people when we were there. They had antiques with a hubcap section.

There was a really nice set of 64 Impala SS caps but we opted for the 73+ truck cap. My son in law tried to get the proprietor to sell his 77 K10 with 4.10 gears and bucket seats. No luck.

My grandson fed the St Elmo squirrels.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

BTW we paid the exorbitant price of $6 for the cap.

Looks like a nice trip. Love the pictures. Hate that they are on my computer and not in front of me. I love higher altitudes. I'm jealous of both you guys!

No more Crusted Butt, ey? Damn! It was '03 when I was there last and it was so cool I loved it. It is the place where mountain bikes basically developed out of, there and Marin Co, CA. They started adapting old balloon tire bikes with gears for trail riding. I was in the forefront of all that myself. This was late-70s or 1980. They have the National mountain Bike Museum (or had) in the back of this shop, just one room. I considered donating my bike but never did. Back then you searched and scoured to find parts to work. Beach cruisers were just coming on in CA, so anodized aluminum rims and things like handlebars were available. Then it was antique parts mixed with adapting BMX pieces. I started with a rusty frame and fork I found in a mountain farm dump. I had that bike when I lived in Flagstaff and people loved it (wheelie machine). That was about the time Ross bicycles got into manufacturing lightweight ATBs, which is what they called then at first. Schwinn had come out with what could be considered the first mt bike, a cruiser with 5spds and a drum rear brake from a tandem. That's how my antique Columbia was built. I still love riding bikes, but my interest faded when the yuppies got a hold of Mt Bikes. Life is simple, live and let live. Why can't so many people get that?

Crested Butte was a big snowmobile area back when I was in the west. I wonder how the snotasses feel about those now.

Here she is, unrestored in 'as built' form. And one shot of my Schwinn Cruiser5

Killer, I'm impressed that you include your entire family in your adventures. We have always included the kids in our lives.

K, when I mentioned bikes, I wasn't thinking about the mountain bikes so much. I am impressed with anybody that can negotiate those trails, at those altitudes.

I get the picture of who you meant. Those people need to get over themselves and stop expecting people to live to please 'them'. There was none of that last time I was there. Down to earth people who hung in there because it's so frikken nice and somewhat isolated being one road in or out, other than over the pass...when it's open.

Speaking of bikes. On the 4th of July I met my older son and his girl at The Barbara Fritchey Classic, AMA flat track racing, at The Great Frederick Fair grounds. This is a small purse race, so none of the big shots attend (or rarely), but it is the longest standing continuously run motorcycle race in the country. There are the grandstands or you can park yourself around the track and tailgate through the races. Never enjoyed eating cinders and dust as much as I have there. I split the wood extension ladder in two, spread them to each side, and put a small tarp across for shade. Two folding chairs in the bed, along with the cooler, and we were set. The charcoal grille was set up out front. We ended up at the same spot as a guy I know and his bunch of friends. Bruce is an old GM Truck guy, too. So it was one big happy group
