I wandered over here from the SquareBody section and got caught up in your build. All 40 pages of it. Tons of creativity and high-quality execution here. Thanks for taking the time to let us in on it.

This is a quick shot of the design of the panel.

It will be 2 pieces when all done.
Erin Ruddy from Ruddymade Interiors will be helping me with the design of the actual panel.
I'll get more posted later.

Thanks Russ!

I'll be getting the panels finished up this week I think, so I'll have a bunch of pics to show how it's all made.

Stay tuned....

pic 1. Here is the panel that (Erin) made for me.
It's made from 1/4" acrylic and the plastic sheets I bought earlier.
After he made the basic shape it was glued together and body filler to smooth out and blend.

Pic 2. Here it's a bit clearer on how the panel is layered.
The section that has the voids or circles are for the 1/4" magnets.
I will glue in magnets to both the insert and main panels.

Pic 3. Here I'm showing how I used pan head bolts to mount the panel to the door.

Pic 4. Then I sanded the panel to prep it for filler.

Pic 5. After taping the insert panel to protect it from filler I used Upol fibral
To make the first layer to mold the 2 panels together.

More to come.

Pic 1. So since we had a spare set of doors laying around I took advantage of this and brought them home to my shop so I could do all the filler work off the truck.

Pic 2. In this shot you can see the insert is able to pop out of the area where the filler was added.
This insert gets bolted in place when assembled.

Pic 3. The insert back in place and I also added a 1/4" round bar at the lower section and this will be permanent. It will add a bit more detail.and depth to the panel.

Till next time....

Pic 1. After I put the rod on with epoxy I then started to blend it with fibral.

Pic 2. Then moved on to the filler to blend it in further to the insert panel
This will make it flow a bit better.

Pic 3. In this shot it shows the bar really good, thus will add another level of detail to the panel.

pic 1. Here the panel has been sprayed with high build primer. That way I can block them out real nice.

Pic 2. After sanding the panel and the insert to see how it looks .

Pic 3. I put the panel back on the door to check final fitment
And also to see how the lower accent panel would look.

pic 1. So finally it was time to wrap these in some vinyl.
Me and Dad went over to Erin's and he was going to give us a lesson on how he does things.

Pic 2. Here Erin is covering the first panel.
Starting from the center and moving out.

Pic 3. The panel all covered.
Now the insert needs to be covered.

Pic 4. The insert was then reduced to have material put on it and to be able to fit into the panel snugly.

Looks clean and simple. A lot of the aftermarket panels out there look too bulky. well done.

Pic 1. Here he is covering the insert panel.

Pic 2. The final product.
Super Happy with the panel and design, really clean.

Pic 3. This is a closer look at the material used on the insert.
It is NOS (new old stock) 48 Buick fabric, this will in turn tie in with the Buick headlight bezels.
