Got the frame all buttoned up and exhaust done. Still need to re-install the tank but you get the idea.

A couple weeks ago, I spent the afternoon polishing the gas tank. Yesterday, my dad decided to redo it. I have to say, his work is obviously much better than mine.

Yeah, at first I thought maybe he was punking me. Then after about 6 reflection pictures, I was positive he was punking me.

Funny.

One more picture.....

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed

I didn't take any pictures but we spent a few hours working on Saturday. We put a new diff cover on the rear end because the old one was bent on the bottom and the fluid needed to be changed anyway. Also, I finally flipped the shroud on the radiator so it isn't upside down anymore, and had to clearance a boss on the block on the driver's side to stop it from contacting the header.

So, little steps but still making progress.

Finally making some progress on the bed floor. Two weekends ago we started grinding and splitting spot welds. Saturday, we got the floor out completely and the rear section inserted and spot welded back into place. Today, they got the front section cut to length and inserted. Still need to get the middle cross braces put back in and weld the seam.

How did you end up with two sections of floor? I forgot that there was a flat section on the front portion but it looks like you have two new sections now?

Well, initially I was only going to replace the front, then decided to do both instead of dealing with that God awful bed liner. I had already ordered the front section and instead of sending it back and ordering a full floor, I just ordered a rear section. Plus, shipping the two sections was significantly cheaper due to size.

I'm actually pretty impressed with how it all is coming together. They come longer than an actual full floor and both front and rear are stepped to mate with an original floor. We cut about 5" off the front. Will have to weld the seam and body work it but it wont be bad. Now all the sheet metal on the bed will be new except the bed sides.

Here are some pictures of the whole floor laid out on the ground. Also, a picture of how they are stepped and approximately how much we had to cut.

Interesting, I had no idea! I'm interested to see what type of coatings you put on which parts of the bed. I was planning on 4 coats of epoxy primer to the underside of the floor, raptorliner to the top side of the floor, epoxy to the underside of the wheel tubs, then paint both sides of the sides, front panel, tailgate, and top side of wheel tubs.

Everything top side will be painted and finished as nicely as the rest of the truck with the exception of the inside of the bedsides. They will sprayed with undercoating to add a little texture and then painted body color. Everything underneath is already or will be sprayed with undercoating.

One obstacle I am trying to work through in my mind is what I am going to do for a fuel door/cap. This truck already had a tank underneath the bed and the filler neck is dead center. With a steel floor bed, you have to deal with the ribs so I don't know what we will do yet. I have some ideas but haven't decided.

I'm planning on buying a billet access door and using seam sealer to caulk the gaps between the ribs and the door, or cut and weld in a flat spot. You can either keep your cap or get a push-in cap too.

Yeah, I might end up adding some material so a cap will sit flat. Trying to come up with something a little different though.

Cut out sections of your old floor where they are shaped to clear bolt holes & add them to the center rib.

I've also seen where they have 'bridged' the ribs so the center 3 are tied together in that area & have the same shape in between the ribs so it all looks consistent.

I like that third picture.

Tanks Inc has a fuel door kit but it's kind of pricey. You can always cut out a door assembly at the junkyard and weld it in too.

Thanks for the ideas. I was planning to get all creative but think I will end up ordering a Hagan door. Haven't decided if I am going to go with a square or round one yet, but will post pics once I do.

The motor harness should be here in the next week or two. In the meantime, I have ordered a fan relay and am just waiting for the parts to get here to fire this thing.

No real updates. The harness came in but we haven't had a chance to work on the truck.

I picked up this steering wheel as a Christmas present. Also, the Hagan fuel door came in.

I like my Forever Sharp wheel too!

Did you get the American Autowire Classic Update or are you talking about the LS harness?

Just the ls harness. I did the Autowire kit on the last one of these we did. Good stuff.
