I told him if he sold it to me I promised him it would be done nice in his honor as he had owned it for 30 years. He would not sell it to anyone local to him as he didnt want to see it destroyed .When it comes home I will have to make a trip to western North Carolina to let him take it for a ride and show him I kept my word .Sorry to hijack your thread but everyone on here building an old truck kept me going forward including you ,so thankyou all.

Man, that is awesome, John. I totally respect and admire you even more for that. Please snap some pics when you go check it out tomorrow.

Yesterday was a really fun and awesome day of driving but a few minor setbacks. Thanks to flashed we got it all sorted out. He's a first class guy all around!

I kept working to remove the spray paint on the rear passenger fender and it's gone! It's down to the sheet metal in a large place and so I'm hoping it will weather/patina over the next few months (especially since we're under a winter storm advisory M-W). Good news is the white that was under there is in nice shape. I helped the other fender along a little more with some light wet sanding and washed the whole truck with some Meguiars wash n wax for a little protectant. All around busy day!

Should get my other wheel this week and I'll order tires tomorrow for the Canton (GA) Winter Meet Up this coming up Saturday. He'll look like he's got a lift kit bc I haven't finished sourcing all my lowering components but he needs tires and that's a good way to kill a bunch of stones in one blow.

Very nice, flashed. Ordered my tires today and drove it a few miles when I noticed the rear seal looks like it's leaking pretty badly - although pretty inconsistently. There wasn't any tranny fluid on my driveway after driving about 60 miles Saturday. Weird.

Oh well, the money pit continues to deepen. Just when I decided to look into building a period correct 396/402, I get checked with a tranny leak. Hate spending money on unexpected things.

They are money pits ,that is for sure .The shop still cant get my transmission to take first and second gear ,only high ,so it looks like another rebuild coming up in order for my truck to come home .Just keep pecking away at it and the list of things to do will finally get smaller ,but these old trucks like to help us spend our money. I cant wait to see it with new wheels and tires .

And you will have to wait a few days for me to look over those doors ,my bosses decided I was working around the clock the next several days ,staying on campus until this next winter storm passes .Man I am so bored here.

Man, I hate that on your tranny. Who knows what I'll end up doing on mine.

As far as having to stay on campus, that really stinks but I know those students are glad to have you around. Hopefully it won't be as bad this time.

I'm looking forward to seeing the wheels on, too!

Hi Robbie ,Im back home from work ,they let me go at 3 yesterday as they didnt think anything was going to happen .I like your pics but hate this snow and ice crap .we are iced in for at least a couple more days. Im sooo ready for spring to get here ,seems all I do here is gather firewood ,never time to play with trucks.

Glad they let you go home! It's been a rather interesting winter for sure. Hopefully it slacks off soon.

Been waiting on tires and a few parts for a while....

Final 2 tires came in today and getting them mounted in the morning. CPP adjustable (bent) trac bar came in today thanks to chevyguy_72.

Also, flashed, being the kind man he is, gave me his OEM white bumper from his '72 that's almost finished. Bumper still needs a few more bumper bolts and some tweaking to fit more snuggly but I'm super pleased with it.

Here's a couple of pics.

That bumper looks right at home there ,much better than hanging in my shop .Do you need the middle upper brackets ,I have an extra pair if you need them including bolts ? I cant wait to see your new tires and wheels .Im planning to bring other leftover parts home from the bodyshop tomorrow.

It really does! Thanks. Now I just need a white sport style bumper for the rear. And yes, I do need the middle upper brackets and bolts. Mine basically had to be cut off.

I'm ready to see my wheels/tires as one unit as well. Been a long few weeks.

Thanks, John. You're a good guy. Just dropped off wheels to be mounted so I should have a pic later today. Not sure if I'll put them on truck yet since it's going to sit for a bit while I get my motor situation figured out. Either way, they'll be ready when I am.

Ironically I found Robbie on CL. I was looking for a 250 to put in the 67 4x4 i picked up. Chalky is coming home with me today. Worked out a deal for the motor and offered to drop his truck if he had the parts. He had the parts so Chalky will be looking a little different by the weekend :)

Bill, you're the man! Really appreciate the offer and deal we worked out. This is super helpful!

As promised, here's a pic of the wheels/tires. With Bill coming to pick him up, Chalky will be looking a little bit different in a few days.

It's pretty remarkable but it's all about to slow down while I save and gear up for for my LS swap. Very much appreciate all the extremely nice and helpful board members here! :metal:
