Re: 1960 Biscayne

Thanks guys. Believe me, I'm anxious to see it myself. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Air Ride itself works - not just holding air, but setting it up.

My problem now is battling scope creep. I had a plan to do the projects in steps. The first was to do the suspension and have it drivable for the summer, then work on the engine and brakes this Fall, but now I've already ordered the brake kit. It's the old "while I'm here I might as well go ahead and ...." syndrome.

I'm also thinking about replacing the interior too. It's not bad, but not great either, and I'm running a lot of wires that would be a lot easier if the interior was out.

I'm going to have it driving by July - that's the plan for now.

I got a great buy on a used lift. Had it installed Wednesday night, and I wired it up yesterday and today. Too bad I didn't have it before I tore the suspension all apart, but it's now there when I need it. It's going to be so much nicer - I'm getting too old to crawl around under cars.

Very nice! I have a 59 Buick LeSabre and have always wondered if the suspension was the same between buick and chevy. They make full air ride kits for the Chevys, would be nice if that worked on the Buick too.

Re: 1960 Biscayne

I bet the suspensions are the same. You might have two upper arms in the rear rather than one.

Congrats on the new to you lift. I would love to have shop tall enough and a lift to go with it. I'm too old for rolling around under them too.

Thanks Mike. I wish I had gotten it before I tore into this. Every time I roll out from under the car, I look over at it and think about how much easier this could be. Oh well.

Re: 1960 Biscayne

Got the new spindles and brakes in yesterday, courtesy of the Brown Truck, just in time for the weekend. The spindles are a 2" drop and the rotors are 13". A bit of a surprise to me was the steering arms on these rascals are not part of the spindle, so I had to remove the old ones and clean them up to use.

Here's how the brake set up looks:

Re: 1960 Biscayne

Funny thing has happened. Those of you who have read through this thread know that early on my intent was to keep the puppy basically stock. And then crawdadfox came along and posted pics of his car and that pretty much torpedoed my plan. So now the idea is to do a similar thing to this car, but the motto now is "do no harm". I'm keeping all the parts so at some point in the future the car can be put back to stock if someone wanted.

I also thought I'd cruise this car for a summer and flip it next summer, but I've really come to love this car. It's just so simple to work on and it's unusual too. So, I've decided to divert my time and attention from Old Yeller to this.

The interior will be like the exterior with the new wheels - still honor the old design, but with a contemporary twist. I hope to have it installed by this time next month. For now, I want to get the brakes and suspension wrapped up.

Stay tuned. :)

The only disadvantage to running these 13's is the original wheels won't fit, but with nice 18" Intros, the original drums weren't going to do. But I'm going to refurb the drums and box them up for future use.

I love the direction you are going with this car. Your brakes looks like the same ones I got from POL on my 65 SS. Either way, they make the car so much more fun to drive. Keep posting pics, I love checking them out!

Thanks Nick.

I did get these from POL. I hope the mighty Six can generate enough vacuum to power the booster. :D

The brown truck dropped off a present today. This is what the General used in 58 through 60 Impalas:

Here is the steering wheel I got from Billet Specialties. It's a half wrap. Adds a nice update on the original, I think.
