Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
after getting the rear out and all of the brackets, I took some time to clean up the frame. wire wheeled the whole thing and it looks pretty good. here are some shots from that whole process.
my daughter wanted to help, so i handed her the wire brush while i took a Mt Dew break. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/1.jpg Made some progress on the whole height issue... http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/2.jpg And here's the broken bracket i was talking about. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/3.jpg Like i said, i just have flux core wire right now, and these will never be seen, so i was pretty quick with it. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/4.jpg here's my try at hiding my bed and clip from the neighbors... http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/5.jpg And the clean garage before i messed it up again cleaning the engine. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/6.jpg |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
so then after that i started to work on cleaning up the 402 i'm dropping in this thing. got one side done, then moved to the other side. I was wearing my safety glasses the whole time, but what i failed to realize is that the second side was still pretty moist with oil and grease. This is the result of that "failure to notice"
http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/7.jpg but, in the end, i ended up with this for a nice clean engine: http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/8.jpg and then in primer: http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...r_engine/9.jpg and then in paint. (i just leave the camera on auto, but it's chevy orange) http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._engine/10.jpg |

I should be able to come up this weekend and help get it stopping and get a firewall in there. |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
Levi it is coming along very nice! I think I have some short chrome BBC valve covers you can have if you want them. And that BB is definitely not a tall deck. Tall decks have 2 thermostats in the intake manifold and usually have an odd vibration dampner with cast pulleys. I can't believe that truck was in IOwa! You definitely lucked out with that truck!

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
thanks man. you'll have to stop over some time in the coming weeks to check it out. I'm going to start shopping for parts next week so the UPS man is going to know me by first name pretty soon :)

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
I also love your body parts hiding spot! I'll see how things go. I am in the middle of trying to get my car done by April 4th, and it is torn apart farther than your truck. :(

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
so speaking of banker...
I placed my order with Scotts Hotrods today. I will be getting their super slam mustang II IFS, power rack, brakes, under cab booster, BBC mounts, rear super slam 4 link, step notch, bags, and shocks. Should be here in a couple days. right jeph?? :) more like a couple weeks. I started boxing the frame tonight after picking up some steel this afternoon. I have 4' on both rails tacked in up front, and will tackle more tomorrow. I really need to find a torch so i can make light work of the under cab cross member, but i'll get to that soon enough. I have pics, but will save them until the end of the weekend. |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
and ordered a bunch of shinny parts from summit... Engine should be going together next weekend with a test fit to mark where the trans x-member will go and how much floor needs to be cut.

this weekend i'll be bolting on some go fast parts to the BBC and doing the first test fit to see how much of the floor/firewall is going to get hacked. |
