Cool its starting to look like a quad cab. I bet that CNC machine makes things a lot easier! Do you take it somewhere to have that done?

Yes, it does make things a lot easier and nicer looking. I just take the files to work and cut them there.

Cut some firewall fillers and the lower B-pillar boxes today. Still got to bend the boxes a little more but can't finish them on the brake, gotta do it by hand.

Plus, everyone has to have a cool mailbox flag right?

That is cool. Looks good enough to clear coat and leave the burnt flames as they are.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)

Welp, tonight wasn't that great. Got one B-pillar brace bent up and half way welded in....

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...7%20GMC/45.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...7%20GMC/46.jpg

Then test fitted the door again. For some reason it was really close to the B-pillar support. Measured everything again, good. Measured again, good. Got confused for a while. Cussed a bit. Measured again..... AH HAH..... The front driver's side A-pillar is twisted, I should have noticed that just by looking at the hinge pockets. Seems to me like someone had their door open, backed up and wacked the door. Which then broke the pin in the hinge, bashed the cab, and then twisted the A-pillar.

I know what I'm doing tomorrow now..... Replacing an A-pillar... Wa-hoo :(

Keep at it....It's coming together nicely (even if you have to take parts of it back apart for it to come together right ;) )

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)

Got the rear of the front cab mounted up yesterday. Almost chopped my head off with the whole cab back..... Hammering on a large piece of metal while clamped in and your head under a sharp cut piece of sheetmetal = no good. :( I still have to replace the front A-pillar but I got the donor section cut from another one of my cabs, just need to cut the bad section out of this cab.... way to many spotwelds.....

Also went junkyard hopping today and think I have found my donor roof panel with a giant sunroof. AWESOME!

Also got a few firewall patches in place. Plan for the beginning of this week is to get the A-pillar replaced, B-pillars welded up, doors hung. I have to work on my Jeep the end of this week and the weekend. I gotta finish something around here, right?

My projects been relocated in the "projects and build forum"? This isn't a project, is it? :but:

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)

New A-pillar has been stripped of all it's excess sheetmetal, cleaned, sealed, and replaced the lowest cage nut for the door hinge. It's all ready to go in now.... Just trying to figure out whether I should clean everything up while it is out before welding the new one back in.
I thought I'd have to replace the lower hinge area but this one was in great shape minus the lowest cage nut (easy fix though). Had to do a little metal work around both hinge holes but nothing major, just a little straightening.

I like your project - it's the only one I know of with a roof cam!

I also like your plastic lawn chair. I have one for my project too. IMO it is as important as a flap wheel or a MIG welder. You need to be able to sit and stare.

It's tight quarters on the side of my house... the only way to get good pics is on my roof. Plus I can see it as a whole up there.

The lawn chair is actually for my seat in the truck. I like to sit in there and pretend......

Do you sit quiet or do you make vroom vroom noises like me?

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)

I sit quiet and whack myself on the head for the hurt I'm getting myself into on this build.

Cut and bent up a few more goodies today. Got the C-channel step supports and the door latch plates done (using the Dodge latches).

Here's some inspiration for you. This truck was for sale up in the Midwest a few years ago. It had the frame and drivetrain from a late model Chevy HD3500. The guy wanted $15K for it and said he'd NEVER build another one. TOO many hours of fabrication. Enjoy.

Looks like a beautiful truck. I often worry about the "if's." If I got t-boned, If I took out the custom dually fenders, If If If......

Definitely a lot of work to build this truck.

Project is on hold until the Jeep is done.... 1 or 2 weeks.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)

The Jeep is kicking my @$$. I thought it'd be a quick pull cage, finish welding cage, paint cage, patch rust in tub, Line-X tub, reinstall cage, reinstall interior..... Well the rust repair has taken me about a week. Started masking the tub to Line-X and it started to peel the paint, so now I have to repaint the passenger side of the Jeep.

Hang tight folks, I'll be back on this project as quick as I can......
